The first #image is a #story of the #classism & exploitation I & other #marginalizedartists have faced by the #artsindustry. I was stripped from an art show by Rivaa gallery when as a collective we called out them defending @tonyvita2753 using Ai 🤖 in all his work. And @rooseveltislandny & @govkathyhochul illegally funding his crimes while pushing out “whistle blowers” by sustaining his copyright ©️ work. I then hoped I had placement @husdonguild for their annual art show , where their racist / transphobic toxic white gay Chelsea director followed and harassed me, and expected me to work on Shabbat to install. He threatened and ripped my art piece, after months working on it @fountainhousegallery I reported the bullshit 💩 I’ve faced to @nycchr just like the transphobia / racism I’ve faced @fountainhouse for years in their gallery as well. Many times I wanted to give 🆙 being an artist because of the industry’s elitism and cruelty like @culturelablic a$$hole in chief who made fun of my work like other jerks in the industry after already being accepted. I was kind to @thom.heyer.nyc @sophia.vitko @alyfiberartist and many of these backstabbing bishes in the industry. They smile 😃 in your face and bully you online and elsewhere and claim credit for their narcissistic agenda. Even under the guide of working at ngos that are meant to play fair. I’m a a damn talented artist 👩🏽‍🎨 regardless of how the industry devalues me, and rejects me on the basis of my identity. The @themuseumofmodernart @metmuseum @museelouvre of the 🌎 don’t get to determine who are talented and fits their boxes 🗃️/ cliques 📦 the people gets to decide what artists 🧑‍🎨 they love 💕 we all deserve to enjoy 😊 art 🖼️ and making art 🖼️ without anyone else’s approval. By the end of the day; the only person we need to be content with out work, is ourselves. To all those who have put me down again and again, a big reminder, fuck off 🖕 I will build my own legacy, without your exclusionary politics. As the title of my first piece “rewind & release” explores the cycles 🔃 of trauma and ocd, and I included spit, urine & semen to extend parts of dna 🧬 to filter out 💩 by them.

A shifting, timeless kind of stasis.

Been a while, eh? Finishing off the final set of shots from the show I had with @annthurium_art at @_ev.gallery. I really love the rhythm of the black layers breaking up the motion. I should see how that feels with future sculptures!

My first group exhibition was held in 2022 at the E.V. Gallery in New York City, NY, USA. For three days, a photo from “the Mirage” collection was on display to the public. Many artists from across the Middle East participated in the exhibition.

This collection is inspired by the story of my grandmother and her palm tree, “Khoda-daad.”

|Statement Summary|
In the Middle Eastern culture, when it comes to counting palm trees, one refers each tree as a person. We open up our feelings to them, talk and argue with them, and surprisingly they respond to us. As to how important these trees are considered in our culture, one needs to remind the fact that cutting them down is officially forbidden by the law, unless you plant another one. This photo is from a series named “Mirage”. The Mirage is a reminder of the time when I was struggling with some mental difficulties, and at the same time needed some help.

I’m looking back over the year and suddenly I’m flooded with gratitude - - for the new people that have come into my life, the old friends that helped balance my oars when needed and the opportunities I’ve received. It's also been a difficult year of loss, illness but for now I’ll focus on the positive because I don’t take time to appreciate it often enough.

My life’s been dedicated to photography since the early 80s when I started documenting the NYC downtown punk scene. And its brash current has swept me along, through every life decision I’ve ever made because, for me, when my photo world is going well, everything else feels golden!

So I give sincere thanks to those that have curated my work into exhibits this past year, purchased it, published it (and even spelled my name right 😉!) or supported some aspect of my “vision”. I give thanks for new friends met during a summer residency, mural & graffiti artists met while working on articles, and inspired individuals I worked with in ICP courses and the Foundry Photojournalism Workshop. And I’m grateful for the camaraderie of our artistic community. I take none of it for granted. Thank you for sharing some of my world within yours and vice versa. I look forward to seeing ya on the other side of the holidays!!

Storytelling has always been the driving force in Lelong’s work, guiding her choice of whatever medium and material best embodies the narrative. ENTRANCEXIT combines her use of found objects, miniature watercolors, and etched prints to portray the emotional distance one reflexively seeks in response to the drama of unfolding events against the need to stay involved. Channeling this conflict through the creative frameworks she uses to stage this show is an attempt to deflect this ambivalence.
