This must be the bourbon enthusiasts anthem. You gotta wait till the spouse is in the bathroom or asleep to sneak your whiskey inside. We’ve all been there.

🥃 Distillery Tour & Visit 🥃

Yesterday our #bourbon Group visited @8thdaydistillery for a tour & tasting. Gotta say - if you haven’t been, you are missing out! Down in the Factory Arts District (FARTs district?….)

They went all out hosting us. Just look at this space!

Our guide Forrest was a delight. Dropping knowledge. (Did you know the Paperplane cocktail was named after the MIA song….🤯)

8th Day was one of the first to sign a lease in the complex and have been there over 10+ years now. We got to meet the distillery cat who showed up unannounced years ago when the Nocino Black Walnut Liqueur was produced. Black cat / black walnut.

8th Day uses yeast known for its high ester and can ferment for 3 days or more. Barrel entry usually in the 1-teens with a focus on Bourbon for sure. You probably won’t see a Vodka from them. It’s just not very ‘crafty’ plus all the distillation runs remove the impurities / flavors.

We got to see the actual coriander, Angelica root, and juniper used in their Gins and their new bottling / labeling line. 8th Day has filled over 2600+ barrels in their history. Has to be some interesting stuff aging back in the warehouse! Ready for the weird stuff!!

Then for the tasting part- we tried Gin, rum, #whiskey , rye and Bourbon. Even a few specialities.

Highlights of the tasting for me-
@taxmanbrewing collaboration Single Malt Single Barrel. Just wow. This was the second run of this which came out late last year. Of course it’s all gone. But if/when they do a 3rd release… it’s a must pickup.

Queens Share Rum. Which I mentioned before on here. Learned a few fun things on it. Named way back when as it was the inferior product you send to the queen after you re-distill the tails to get a bit more out. 5 year aged Rum.

Both #ryes . Their standard (70% rye 30% corn, had an incredible nose. Like a Man’s Man cologne) and the black label 4.5 year, 114ish proof, 51% rye, 44% corn, 5% malted barley: which I took home. More on that in the future.

Then Golden Hive (which they still have some!) the Mead Distilled product and Absinthe (if you like black licorice)

What would you do with an 8th Day? Indeed.

Meet Copper & Kings Bourbon — where bold tradition meets orchard‑born innovation.

A masterful blend of 5, 10, 12, and 17‑year bourbons, each chosen for depth, character, and soul.

Finished up to 3 years in apple brandy barrels, layering rich caramel warmth with bright, fruit complexity. This is bourbon with a twist — and a story worth savoring.

MSRP: $29.99
Premium flavor without the premium price tag.

A group I’m a part of did a little pick at @oldlouisvillewhiskey recently. We decided on a 9yr, double oaked bourbon. Mash bill 60-34-4. Pretty darn good and well worth the trip. Thanks to Amine for the hospitality!

Have you ever done a barrel pick? If so, where?
