🦠🎭 SLIME AT PECKHAM DIGITAL? 🎭🦠 Join Fran for 'SLIME CITY: Grow your own algorithmic slime mold anti-surveillance mask using Scaniverse and Blender', a hands-on workshop on hiding from facial recognition with a little help from slime mold. You'll start by 3D scanning each other's heads on your phone, then move into Blender, where a Python algorithm grows simulated slime mold across your scan. Tweak the settings to shape your own unique, organic mask, and leave with a print-ready anti-surveillance mask file! 💡 Beginner-friendly and open to all, with no coding or 3D experience needed. Bring a laptop with Blender installed and a phone with the scanning app downloaded. Fran Hayes is an artist working mainly in Blender, alongside video, writing, installation and computation. The Phreaking Collective is collaborating with Peckham Oasis to host a curated night of computational art films in their brand-new screening space. The night celebrates independent filmmakers across London working with new forms of storytelling, production, and technology. From the data-scare future of precious and passed-down storage devices in Clara’s Harddrive, to intergalactic dreamgivers in Oneirokritikon, to an alien bacteria crossing a neverending landscape in A Fox Ate My Favourite Knickers, and a ballet of necromancy, birth, and transformation in Flowers of Flesh and Blood, each film creates a unique world that both reflects and dulls our contemporary reality. The text takes inspiration from a recurrent interaction with a local neighbourhood fox who has taken a liking to the human residents' favourite garments. The interactions collapse the space between them - fox and human - decimating imagined hierarchies. It considers the overlaps between their intimate ecologies and of the deep networks that entangle all things. An ode to Peckham Digital. For the past five years I have been co-directing Peckham Digital, a community interest company, that exists in the form of a yearly festival but has slowly been spreading its wings through a podcast and a summer school for young people. My ambition is to get it to spread further, but all of this comes at a human and collective pace. I am so grateful to all the people I have collaborated with over the past five years. The generosity that exists within the creative computing and digital arts community is absolutely inspiring. When I describe myself as co-director, it's not only because I have had the pleasure to share the driving seat with Matt, but because the community plays a big part in that in the co-directing. Those close to me know this year has been rough in terms of funding, but super fruitful in terms of new connections and opportunities for the organisation. I am so grateful to work aside @elmsly as she and @planetary.act curate Creative Intelligence at @southbankcentre As exciting it is to be part of Southbank Centre's celebration of Art and Technology, Peckham Digital's fifth festival is hanging on a string. Nearly a month ago, I started a crowdfunding campaign. We have raised enough money to run our talks, workshops and performance programme but would love to bring the full brilliance of the festival. Last week we held our first computational arts festival <<𝘊𝘢𝘯 𝘞𝘦 𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘈𝘨𝘢𝘪𝘯? We’re so happy with how it went: seeing our community all in one space, engaging critically with computation, learning and sharing new skills, meeting new people, and so so so much more. Thank you so much to every artist, workshop facilitator, speaker, performer, filmmaker, writer, and volunteer who pushed these conversations, shared new and exciting concepts and helped form such a special week.
