Reckless : “Heedless of danger or the consequences of one’s actions; rash or impetuous”
.
I just got home from a nice family getaway up the coast. About as far from reckless as actually possible. Wholesome stuff, put the devices away- spent a lot of time at the beach, dipping a line in, building castles, paddling around. It was bloody hectic though. For some reason the wife & I had relaxing beach side holiday vibe ideas. But in reality we simply took our 2 naughty boys from our large well equipped (& safe) family home, to a tiny little beach shack. With a TV & lots of breakables at arm’s length of a 1 year old. It was lovely, beach > office any day of the week- but also an eye opener. It’ll be a fair few more years until we can ‘relax’ or for that matter get reckless on a holiday
.
BUT, we had Beer! If an 8% double neipa from @runningwiththieves couldn’t aid in helping this holiday develop
some chill, nothing could
.
Pouring orange with just a hint of clarity, I get sweet candied citrus & pineapple aromas. The 8% is there, not completely hidden & accompanied by a nice pronounced long bitterness. Soft carbonation, punchy hits of citrus & tropical fruit elements of pineapple & passionfruit. I like it. A bit more oompf, in both booze &
bitterness then many others of a similar style
.
Chill mode, engaged! (at least for a couple of minutes :p)

BLUF: @runningwiththieves is scheduled to open an absolutely epic brewery/distillery in South Fremantle in ~October this year!
.
I was lucky enough to have a sneak peak at RWTs new digs last week, and I can confirm the 'Death Star' is an amazingly impressive and shiny facility. The warehouse-style venue currently houses a fully operational 100 hL brewery and three stills with 45 hL distilling capacity. The proposed fit-out, including open plan bar and barrel wall, paint an enticing picture for not only future South Beach Sunday sessions, but for some wonderful and unique new products in the pipeline dreamt up by head brewer/distiller Paul. I can't wait for them to open. A huge thanks to Scott, Chris, Paul and Cherry for their informative, open and honest dialogue and generous hospitality. And cheers @perthbrewreview 😉
.
The two newest beers in the RWT range are the Hazy Pale and XPA, and they're both certified crushable (TM @goodtimescraftbeer).
.
Hazy Pale (5.6% ABV) pours an opaque pale gold colour with light floral and citrus aroma and lingering creamy white head. There are flavours of sweet orange complimented by bitter grapefruit, plus stonefruit and a touch of pine. The body is pale ale-light and ridiculously smooth.
.
XPA (4.6% ABV) pours a near-clear straw colour with again a lightly floral aroma with hints of melon and passionfruit. Despite the lowly 4.6% ABV, it's packed full of flavour - pineapple, passionfruit, citrus and stonefruit. I'm not usually a fan of XPAs due to lack of flavour, but this DDH little beast is a carton-worthy fridge filler. These two cans were provided as part of the tour package, with the range now available around town.
