“Felicia Megginson: Re Framing Nature” is reviewed by Gabrielle Walker (@_gabwalk for Boston Art Review @bostonartreview. Visit the Boston Art Review website to read more. Link in bio. 🔗

“On view at Providence College’s Reilly Gallery, “Felicia Megginson: Re Framing Nature” traces the artist’s decades long engagement with landscape as a site of memory, ancestry, and self representation. Through photography and film, Megginson overlays her own presence onto creeks, branches, meadows, and shorelines in an expansive recasting of Black women’s relationships to nature.”

BGIAS Rhode Island, we’d LOVE to have you!! 🫂💗💐✨

Join the lovely Gabrielle Walker and Priscilla Kamwana for a tour of “Guilded Age: Newport in Color” at Rosecliff Mansion on June 9th from 11AM-1PM. Following the tour, the group will head to the Safari Room for a debrief and lunch from 1PM-3PM. We hope you can make this special experience! Carpooling from Providence, RI is encouraged. Our hosts, Gabrielle and Priscilla are willing to transport you. Just let us know when you RSVP!

The exhibition “Guilded Age: Newport in Color ‘’ sheds light on Newport’s vibrant African heritage community during the Gilded Age, showcasing their entrepreneurial spirit and contributions to economic, social, and political advancements. Appropriately hosted in the beautiful Rosecliff Mansion, it highlights the emergence of African heritage professionals such as doctors, dentists, teachers, and hospitality entrepreneurs, who played pivotal roles in shaping the city’s landscape. Through self-reliance and cultural exchange, these individuals fostered a sense of community and prosperity, attracting visitors from across the region. The exhibition features over 150 artifacts, including photographs, documents, furniture, and clothing, offering a glimpse into this often-overlooked chapter of American history. It underscores the significance of Newport as a hub for African heritage achievement and cultural exchange during this transformative period. Special thanks to the Rhode Island Black Heritage Society (RIBHS).

Parking at the location is free, friends.

A fun day sharing Indonesian and Malaysian home cooking with RISD museum curator Wai Yee Chiong and Gabrielle. After lunch, we continued to the studio to share about studio practice, work process, techniques and various narratives and concepts of work. It can't be finished all, but at least it's a kind of introduction to further interactions. We got caught in the conversation around glitter, it is interesting from the appearance, aesthetics of glitter, glitter associations and the perception of the material. Tumbling between glitz and horror, between sweetness and violence for the eyes, between femininity and masculinity, between glamor and spirituality and a variety of other meanings and narratives. Thank Wai Yee and @_gabwalk for visiting the Black Goat Studios. #studiovisit #indonesiancontemporaryartist #indonesianartist #indonesiancontemporaryart #indonesianart #diaspora #artistofcolor #entangwiharso #entangwiharsoart
