This weekend reminded me why I love live music.

Standing in a field of straight mud, dirty wet and tired, watching thousands of hands in the air. Singing the same words, humming the same melodies. Each song with millions of different memories attached to them. I wondered all weekend what memories these people were reliving. What moments these songs carried for them. A first love. A lost friend. A road trip. A breakup. A season of life they thought they had forgotten.

Every song carries a memory. And every time we hear it, that memory comes with it.

Then it changes. Those old memories get attached to a new one. Thousands of different feelings and experiences all meeting in one place. One shared feeling. One shared memory. That’s why live music is so important. Everybody arrives with their own history attached to a song, and then for a few minutes all of those separate stories are synchronized.

Singing those songs that you know from the bottom of your heart with strangers doing the same thing. It’s incredibly healing. Revisiting vastly different moments, but sharing the same experience.

This weekend reminded me the incredible relationship people have with music, and how often music gives meaning to the relationships and moments that shape us. Because music is both incredibly individual and at the same time so deeply communal.

To make a better world is to make more ways for people to get out and feel, together. Happy Roo❤️
