S3DA 3D Nationals

What a course! Huge thank you to the S3DA national staff for setting up an awesome—and brutal—range. Those steep uphill shots were definitely rough on a bowhunter setup, but it made for a super fun challenge.

After a tough first day at 2 down, I came back swinging on day two—shot +4 (mostly 10s and 12s) to bridge the gap and fight my way into the shoot-offs. Kyler Clark had an even better recovery than mine, but I’ll let him tell you about that one!

Ended up dropping a few points in the final round when the pin stayed low, but I'm proud of the grind to climb back up the leaderboard. Love courses that test you like this.

On to the next!

🥉 3rd Place at S3DA Outdoor Target Nationals!

Qualified 6th before shootoffs and fought my way to the podium. To be honest, I didn’t feel like I was shooting my absolute best—I kept feeling like I was dropping my arm or my sight was low. But whenever I just let go and shot without trying to over-compensate, my groups were solid.

Huge shoutout to the Bowtech Reckoning Gen2 39. Everyone told me, and keeps telling me, that switching bows less than a week before a major competition wasn’t the best idea 😅, but it turned out to be the right call. Its forgiveness definitely saved me when my form wasn't 100%.

The final shootoff came down to the wire. As my dad put it:
"That last end was the best end of archery I've seen in a while! Zachariah shot his arrows scoring 10, 9, 8... Logan needed an 8 to win on his last shot, but dropped a 6." (Dad almost broke his spotting scope watching it unfold! 😂)

Big Thanks:

To all my coaches, especially @h.t.outdoors — thank you for recommending I give the Bowtech a try! If you hadn't, I never would've gone to Endless Archery to test it, never would've realized how much I liked it, and wouldn't have snagged Carl Holleway's bow just in time.

@deadonarchery staff — you know all the ways you’ve helped me out, and I appreciate everything!

Now onto S3DA 3D tomorrow!

4-H Nationals: 3 days, 3 totally different elements, and a whole lot of adapting. ⛈️☀️🎯

Before I even shot my first arrow, official check-in threw a curveball. Despite weighing my draw at 58 lbs at home, their scale read it at 61.5 lbs! I had to back the weight out on the spot, which completely screwed up my sight marks going into the week.

Day 1: FITA (668/720 — 15th out of 120!)
Constant rain and wind that soaked absolutely everyone and everything. My best distance was 50 meters, but because the new target bow is physically so much heavier, my endurance gave out and my front arm started dropping by the 30-meter mark, causing me to drop some easy points. Between fighting the fatigue, my messed-up sight marks, and blurry, fogged-up binoculars, I was thrilled to still take 15th overall! (Plot twist: we looked back at the scorecards later and noticed a totalling error that cost me 5 points. If it had been totaled correctly, I actually would’ve tied for 10th on score and won the tiebreaker on X count! But by the end of that round, we were just tired and ready to be done. 😅)

Day 2: Field (264/280 — 8th out of 120!)
Finally, some sunshine. Even though I was seeing double through my binos, I fixed them enough to put up a 264 and secure a spot in the top 10—fun fact, that actually matched Chris Fong’s score from last year! ☀️

Day 3: 3D (245/330 — 38th out of 120!)
Severe rain overnight borderline flooded parts of the course, making the first and last targets a complete mudfest. The unmarked distances were a pain (sent two clean over the top), but target 30—a hanging possum—made it all worth it.

Ended up finishing 15th overall out of 120 in the nation! Even with the FITA math error (which wouldn't have shifted the final overall standing anyway), I am incredibly proud of how I fought through every single hurdle this week.

Nationals is officially in the books! 🇺🇸✨

If you could pick one release to shoot your entire archery career with what would it be?

For me I’d pick the hinge, the hinge for me has always been a reliable part of my shot and one of the most valuable pieces of the puzzle. With thumb button shooters mostly leaning towards command shooting these days, we see a lot of archers rise but eventually fall and are forgotten about. To me mastering a hinge release is one of the most well time spent that promotes gradual growth with long term success.

What’s your opinion?

S3DA State Days 2 & 3: A total rollercoaster. 🎢🎯

A bit late on this update while waiting on the professional pictures to drop, but here is how the rest of State weekend went down!

Day 2 (Target): Everything finally clicked. The bow settled in and I managed to jump 13 points from Day 1 to finish with a 323 for the day, bringing my overall total to 633 (310 + 323) to take 1st place! Even my rough ends weren’t terrible, just minor things to fix.

Day 3 (3D): This is where it got wild. Had an awesome time running the course with the group, @alaina_foster07 , @jaydenborg6 , @annabelle.kelso ;but I started off fighting my sight and shooting way right. Managed to pull through for 3rd place (191/240)
Right before the novelty shoot, I noticed a massive, nasty crack in my bow limb. 😬

Thought I was tied for Shooter of the Year, so I had to do a 1-arrow shootoff with Jayden. Coach Nathan told me the bow would hold, but later confessed he was secretly chanting "please don't explode" the whole time. 😂 I won the shootoff, but plot twist: @jaydenborg6 actually took the SOTY title based on the point system (6 to 5, lower wins). Huge congrats to him for an awesome battle!

I'm glad to survive the weekend in one piece, but now I'm facing a serious problem: 4-H Nationals are in less than a week, and my top limb is completely done.

Stay tuned... tomorrow(monday) the emergency bow hunt begins. 🛠️🚨

1st day of S3DA Outdoor State is in the books! 🎯 Right now I’m sitting in 2nd place with 310 points—just 3 points behind Easton Hunt and 5 points ahead of @jaydenborg6
The eastern Idaho wind was absolutely brutal today. My @victory_archery Vaps flew incredibly straight despite the gusts; any errors out there were just from the wind catching the bow. During the 3rd and 4th ends, once I got my pin on target, it settled right on the center—something I have noticed more since switching to the 12" @beestinger_stabilizers. I’ll admit I was punching the release a bit, but my @stanreleases Onnex fired consistently when I needed it to.
Ready to shake off the wind and give it everything tomorrow! 💪🏹

Finally back to not shooting dots. Dialing in the Hamskea Contoured launcher, looking like a great setup for 3D.

Man, been a longggg season!
Felt pretty damn good to BEND EM BACK on the new Mathews Arc! We got one leakin’ good, as the Ol Easton/Sevr combo did the trick on a bruiser I’ve been hunting the last two months. Last year, I went down swinging and ate my tag without drawing my bow back. This year, down to the wire, but that’s just the way I like to punch my tag on a cold, snowy night in January!

2025 has been a challenging year but as it comes to a close, I’m stronger mentally and physically, more confident in my equipment, and excited about what’s to come in 2026.
