Hey there lovers 👋💍

Well, following this epic life change and a brief hiatus from all things weddings, I thought it best to come out of my bubble for a hot minute and reintroduce myself to all those couples old and new.

I’m Lorri, an Adelaide-based Celebrant and MC who thrives on creating wedding days that feel relaxed, engaging, heartfelt and unapologetically you.

I love to work with couples who want more than just someone to tick a legal box. They want a ceremony that has guests laughing, crying, and walking away saying that was one of the best ceremonies they have seen.

They want connection, good vibes, and a celebration that feels authentic from the very first moment.

Think of me as your storyteller, hype girl, calm amongst the chaos, and biggest cheerleader all rolled into one!

A little about me? I’m currently emerging from the beautiful newborn bubble after recently welcoming our daughter into the world alongside my hubby and our four-legged sidekick Lottie. When I’m not marrying legends, you’ll usually find me soaking up family time, enjoying a good coffee, yummy food, doing something fitness related all whilst embracing this new season of motherhood.

Mon of @_hellomaeve is our 8th guest at the Arr Party.

She started Hello Maeve Studio 2 years ago, and she is juggling all the balls.

After our chat with Emma Wand who has been here for over 20 years, I thought it would be fun to chat with a tog who is relatively new to the industry.

Because, for whatever reason, we first picked up the camera, we stay because we love photography.

It takes a lot to stay; a lot of heart, resilence and perservance.

And a new photographer has lessons to share, and I encourage you to pop over to the blog to read them.

It reminded me how hard it was in those early years, and how delicious it has become.

I am truly grateful to Mon for putting her hand up, and I know she will be part of our community for a long time to come.

❝What I love about photography is being invited into people’s lives and getting to capture not just the joyful moments but the messy and chaotic moments too. The laughter, the little gestures, the tiny connections you don’t even notice at the time. As a mum of three, I know how fleeting these moments are so it’s such a privilege to step out of my own life for a little while and into someone else’s, to witness their story.❞

✨ What is one thing you would have done differently when you first started in the photography industry?

If I could do one thing differently when I first started, it would be to trust myself more and not get caught up in social media, or overthink what others thought, and just believe in me. Because the people who book me, book me for me. Looking back, I wish I’d leaned fully into that from the very start and stopped worrying about “doing it right.”

LAWYER TURNED CELEBRANT EXPLAINS – WHAT MAKES A MARRIAGE LEGAL IN AUSTRALIA?

PART TWO –THE CEREMONY

1) Must be conducted by an Authorised Marriage Celebrant, in person!
(Celebrant must be registered with the Attorney General. Check your celebrant is registered via below link (you’ll be sure to find my name Tina Warnest 😘)

2) 2 witnesses over age of 18 yrs

3) Specific wording must be used
Celebrant must say the ‘Monitum’ and couple must say legal vows.

4) Consent
A person must understand what marriage is, intend to marry this person, be able to make the decision for themselves and do so without coercion or pressure.
I.e. if medical incident, alcohol, drugs makes a person incapable of above it is celebrant’s duty not to go through with the ceremony, they can offer a commitment ceremony instead and do the legals another day.

5) Paperwork
Legal paperwork must be completed. I make it my practice to send DRAFTs of all paperwork to my couples for formal approval before the big day.
(x2 Official certificate of Marriage and Form 15 Certificate)
Fun fact – this can be done after the ceremony but it must be on the same day as the ceremony.

TOP TIP
If ceremony not done correctly, marriage not legal. Choose a celebrant who knows the law AND knows how to make your ceremony feel effortless.

Marriage Act 1961 (Cth) References:
Section 5 – Definition of marriage
Section 45 – Marriage must be solemnised by an authorised marriage celebrant and compulsory legal vows that must be spoken by couple
Section 46 – The Monitum (the mandatory wording the celebrant MUST say)
Paragraph 23B(1)(d)4Grounds on which marriages are void (specifically in relation to consent)
Section 50 – Marriage Certificates
Attorney General’s Department – Guidelines on the Marriage Act 1961 for Authorised Celebrants (Section 8.5) The Consent of the Parties is not Real Consent
