Someone asked me what having a 15 year old felt like.

It feels like we made it.

There were seasons we thrived and seasons life felt like it was falling apart. When you’re responsible for another life, if yours falls apart, they fall through the cracks you created. So to look up 15 years later and see us on solid ground, and him standing tall, healthy, whole, happy, and a young man with a mind of his own? We made it.

Only 3 more birthdays until 18. Then I can REALLY say we made it 😩

Happy 15th Birthday to my son. You have grown into quite the young man baby boy 💙

To celebrate, here’s 15 years of his wisdom, as recorded by his mother 😂

I could give you the impressive stat line. The touchdowns, the yards, the win column. I could tell you, for the thousandth time that he is a true 14 year old freshmen and not a reclass. I could tell you that he’s a straight A student. I could tell you all the things you can find on paper. But if I did that, you’d miss the most important parts of my son.

The countless hours he puts into studying film. The endless days and nights he’s on the field. The adversity he’s overcome and channels into the sport he’s loved since before he could talk. The untold times people have told him “you’re not a quarterback” to which he responds “I was born to play quarterback, I have to get better.”
The years of fighting through an identity of the “bad attitude kid” to “that kid is a leader.”

He was named Jeriah on purpose. Strong leader.

Strong, the only way to confirm strength is if you’ve been through some things that require you to use that muscle. Trust me he has.
Leader, even with the natural gift of leadership, it requires a constant practice of discipline to actually BE one, let alone a good one. Two things he’s proven committed to.

And at 14 years old, Jeriah has enough evidence to validate his name.

So yeah, the football stuff is cool. Incredible, actually. But if you miss the young man and only see the player, then you’re missing the best part.

We’ve come so far, and have so far to go, but today… like everyday, we’re celebrating right where we are. A huge victory over Mission Hills and what Jeriah has coined “the best game of my career, so far.”

Love you boy. Keep going. 💙🤞🏽

We made it to High School ya’ll 🙏🏽. High. School.
Parents aren’t lying when they say it goes fast.

Pulled up like I had it. Have a good day son! He closed the door, walked on campus, and I couldn’t hold it in. Instant tears.

Watching baby boy grow from a baby to a young man…. Leaves me speechless. He’s ready.

Time to go to work kid 🫡
Love you love you 💙

38 years around the sun ✨ So grateful for my life and the people I get to spend it with.

The older I get the more I realize there isn’t a laundry list of life lessons that will give you the best life… there’s one.

Let it be.

Life is going to life. It’s going to ebb and it’s going to flow. And that’s what makes it beautiful.

Let it be.

Cheers to 38 ♊️
Grateful. Fulfilled. Happy. Focused. Thriving. At peace.
