#wemove - Year 1

Last year I started running again. At first, it was just me. It started as loops around the Rose Bowl and blocks around Pasadena. It was lonely, but peaceful. I didn’t mind it.

But then that all changed. It started with a random Tuesday in January out at Echo Park. I met some amazing people. And then that somehow turned into consistent Tuesdays in the Arts District.

And then we added in track nights on Mondays. Then we added in races and experiences on the weekends. And then I realized that the “we” wasn’t just me anymore.

I look around my life now and it’s filled with nothing but community. Not how I intended it to be when I started logging miles again. But I wouldn’t change it for the world.

To every person that I’ve shared a mile or even a step with, whether that be on the road, trail, track or somewhere in-between, thank you.

A lil’ note from Chef Matt @_illthy,

Thank you all for coming out last weekend for the first-ever Howlin’ x Sending Flowers 10K Run.

Whether it was your first time running or you’re a seasoned vet, you showed up not only to support your local community, but to help support @feedthechildrenorg along the way. It was amazing seeing so many of y’all come out, run together, and share such a special morning. We hope this is just the first of many.

Big shoutout to the @sendingflowers crew for leading by example and for sharing so many of the same values we believe in at Howlin’.

Thank you for running with us, supporting a great cause, and making the first one special.

This weekend, @_sendingflowers and @howlinrays kicked off a 10K collab to support children in need @feedthechildrenorg and it was an amazing day. 🥹

If you know me, you know slow is my bread and butter. I may have graduated to the middle of the pack, but sweeping is a job I take seriously and one I do with a lot of pride and honor. Leading the back of the pack meant helping pace the group, keep us all moving, and making sure the people in the very back had the encouragement, support, and friendship they needed. 💖

If there’s one thing I’m wildly passionate about, it’s making sure people never feel like they have to apologize for where they are in their running journey. Community means everyone is welcome: every pace, every experience level, every version of what showing up look like to someone. It’s one of the biggest reasons I love @_sendingflowers. There’s room for you here, exactly where you are. Doing any amount of running is an incredible thing in itself, and you deserve to feel proud instead of apologizing. 👏🏼

And our group absolutely SLAYED. The runners at the front of our group were amazing about keeping an eye on everyone when I dropped back to check in, and we really were all in it together. We made it back, we had good vibes doing it, and I couldn’t be more proud of everyone giving it their all on a saturday for a good cause. 💖

Proud of this local community, proud of myself, and proud of our running community as a whole.

A lot of love went into our @howlinrays x Sending Flowers collab shirts. If y’all could only see the text thread 😂 We wanted to create something that represented both of our personalities, but more importantly, something you’d actually wear and not send straight to your T-shirt graveyard.

There were LOTS of conTENDERS, but we finally landed on @_illthy running peppers, and with @rich_mcribs help, the design really came to life. Everyone had a hand in this one, and we’re really proud of where it landed.

Our limited-drop tees will be available this Saturday for $55, with all proceeds going to @feedthechildrenorg.

Thank you to everyone who helped bring this one to life.

Join us this Saturday, August 15th at 8 AM with our friends at @howlinrays in Chinatown for a charity 10K supporting @feedthechildrenorg, a nonprofit organization committed to ending childhood hunger in the U.S. and around the world.

First come, first served! The first 50 runners to arrive will receive a wristband for a complimentary meal from Howlin’ Ray’s, with additional meals available at 10% off.
