Weekend recap… 🤠🏈

Definitely a full-circle weekend. Got a chance to see my last head coach in college, Matt Viator, and my first head coach in the NFL, Lane Kiffin. Crazy how life brings things back around.

The game pretty much went how I expected 😂 but I was there to show love and support. Win or lose, I’m still Poke Nation! 🤠💙💛

Great weekend, great memories, and a reminder to appreciate the journey.

Houston ✈️ Vegas 🎰🏀 Flew in, got off the plane and went straight courtside for the Aces’ first playoff game! 🔥

Got to watch A’ja Wilson do her thing, Aces got the W, VIP treatment was on point, and even caught up with my boy Bam after the game. 💯

Quick trip, great energy, great experience. Definitely worth the flight! ♠️🏀

Darrick. Derek Sr. Derek Jr.

I’ll never forget the first time I saw Sting Jr. doing ladder drills as a kid. I looked at Coach and said, “Yeah… he got it.” You could just see something different in him.

Now years later, standing together at Texans practice watching him do his thing in the NFL that’s a full-circle moment.

Coach poured knowledge into me, we came from that DB fraternity, and now Jr. is carrying it forward at the highest level.

3D. Three generations of game, knowledge & respect in one picture. 💯

Story time.

Today, Drew Brees is being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and it brought back a lot of memories.

In 2009, I had the opportunity to be part of that Saints team what some people remember as the "Bountygate" era. My locker was directly across from Drew's. Jahri Evans was to one side, and Mike McKenzie was nearby. I remember all the conversations in that locker room. Drew was always willing to talk football and life, and he'd even hook me up with Advocare products from time to time. He was a true leader.

One moment that always stuck with me happened on the sideline during the Panthers game. Jeremy Shockey walked over to me and said, "What the f*? Why aren't you in the game? You're fast as hell. I've been watching you in practice."** I was honestly shocked he even knew who I was. As a young player trying to make a name for myself, hearing that from a veteran like Shockey meant a lot.

A few weeks before the Super Bowl, Coach Sean Payton released me. Not long after, I signed with the Indianapolis Colts. Suddenly, I was preparing to play against the same Saints team I'd just left in Super Bowl XLIV.

One moment I'll never forget was the "Ambush" onside kick. We had actually installed that play during the week we played Carolina while I was still in New Orleans. I told our special teams to be ready for it because I believed the Saints would use it. They did. Hank Baskett couldn't secure the ball, and in my opinion, that was one of the biggest turning points of the game.

Looking back, it's incredible that in the same season I got to share a locker room with Drew Brees and then join Peyton Manning and the Colts. Now they're both Hall of Famers. Not many people can say they played with two all-time great quarterbacks in the same year.

One thing I'll always treasure is having footballs signed by both the 2009 Saints and the 2009 Colts from Super Bowl XLIV on February 7, 2010. What makes that date even more special is that it was also my dad's birthday.

Congratulations, Drew Brees. It was an honor to share the field and locker room with one of the greatest to ever do it. Some memories stay with you forever. #WhoDatNation #whodat @whodatnation

It was truly an honor meeting so many of you. Usually I'm the one signing autographs, but this time I got to have many of you sign my football helmet, and that's something I'll always remember. Thank you for being a part of that special moment.

Proud moment as a coach and mentor. 🙏🏾

Big congratulations to my nephew, Jermaine Brown Jr., on signing a track scholarship with McNeese State University—my alma mater. And congratulations to Dominique on signing a track scholarship with Langston University—the same university where I had the privilege of coaching.

Watching these young men put in the work day after day in Kentwood and seeing it pay off is what it's all about. Their success is a reminder that discipline, consistency, and faith open doors.

I'm proud of both of you. Keep representing Kentwood the right way, and this is only the beginning. The future is bright! 💙💛🏃🏾‍♂️

No matter what life throws at you, keep pushing.

Lost your job? Keep pushing.
Relationship not working? Keep pushing.
Business slow? Keep pushing.

Life will teach you lessons you could never learn in a classroom. Every setback has a purpose. Every challenge builds character. Every failure teaches something success never could.

The key is not quitting when things get hard. The key is to keep moving forward, one step at a time.

Keep pushing. Your story isn't over yet.

Another ring for my guy DeVonta Smith! 💍🏆
From Amite to Alabama to the NFL, you've continued to make Louisiana proud. National Champion, Heisman Trophy winner, Super Bowl Champion, and now husband.
What's crazy is my brother taught your wife in school and always spoke highly of her. He said she was always a great person. Even crazier, she shares the same birthday as me. Small world.
Congratulations to both of you. Wishing y'all a lifetime of love, happiness, peace, and blessings. Keep representing Amite and Louisiana the right way.

Happy Father’s Day, Dad.

I’m grateful for all the values, discipline, and work ethic you’ve instilled in me throughout my life. You taught me that success comes from showing up, working hard, staying humble, and never making excuses.

The lessons you taught weren’t just words they were examples you lived every day. Those values have shaped the man I am today and continue to guide me in everything I do.

This podcast is a small reflection of the impact you've had on my life. Thank you for every sacrifice, every lesson, and every opportunity.

Love you, Dad. Happy Father’s Day. ❤️💪🏾 #FathersDay #ThankYouDad #nfl #Family #Legacy
