Mark your calendars! Please join us for an artist talk with Jacques Louis Vidal on Saturday, November 7 from 4-5pm at Jardin in his exhibition “Plot Tweest” 🧬 Address: 2608 Dunlavy St. Houston, TX Excerpt from Jacques’ Wikipedia page “Life and work”: In 2006, Vidal attempted to organize a “surrealist county fair” at Metro Mall in Middle Village, Queens, scheduled to take place on April 1. He told a reporter for The New York Times that he pitched the event to mall management ‘’the first-ever opportunity for the worlds of art and science to truly merge’’ by the ‘’Queens Artists Trust Alliance for Communally Aligned Artists.’’ After The New York Times published an article on March 30, Metro Mall canceled the event, which a lawyer representing Middle Village Associates attributed to Mr. Vidal’s characterization of the Mall as having an atmosphere that was “stark, impersonal” and “vast.”

FELIPE TASCON ARTIST TALK from September 26 in his exhibition “Oro” at Jardin is now available on our website! Link in bio 🖇️ (And a bonus SoundCloud playlist tucked in there) Some excerpts: “I think I’m really interested right now in the unit and how in Hindu mythology, the universe starts from a mustard seed, a singular unit, and expands outward. And I guess physics shows that as well. I’m really interested in making paintings that grow.” “I work on paper before I make these oil paintings, and often they’re really loose, like unabashed acrylic or watercolor or colored pencil, anything. They’re just emotional, ugly things. And I think maybe it’s cliché to say painting is a way of processing, but I like the literal translation of that and the idea of taking those loose, crunchy, emotional things and coming to a newer understanding of them. That’s what I’m after when I’m making these.” “[T]hat began this deep dive for me into Mondrian’s earlier work, which many people have documented and shown this chronology from landscape into minimalist abstraction. And I think that’s also how Modernist painting is taught. The story of Modernism is taught through this filtration or conversion. I don’t know if the moment I exist in with my peers is as linear. I think I’m interested in the middle for that reason.” Image 1: Felipe Tascón, reticle, 2026, oil on linen, 12 × 30 in Image 2: Single cell shaded on heartsong.
