If a tree falls in the woods and no one’s there to hear it, does it make a sound? 😂 But seriously… What about a great audition that you don’t get cast from and very few ever get to see — or a script that you spent years on, and crushed, that never gets produced? In recent years, I’ve realised that great work can truly exist, without being produced. In fact, sometimes, our best work. Hence, if we can find joy in magical creative processes and moments, instead of placing our happiness in the hands of the person casting the role, or funding the production, we will, naturally, be happier and more fulfilled. Of course, we gotta work and get stuff made. We gotta eat 🤷‍♂️ But, my point is, the YES or NO from the decision maker doesn’t always come down to how good we or our work are. And so, we have to find ways to reclaim that approval process — rather than giving our power and ticket to happiness away. When we can achieve this, even in small ways, it’s liberating.
