Calling All Shields Maidens! Welcome to Valhalla!

A place where Odin's angels guide the worthy fallen from the battlefield to Valhalla, the Norse hall of heaven. Our VALKYRIES are a Sisterhood, representing shield maidens for glory and redemption in the battle of life and in the dragon boat.

We are a Sisterhood of friends, mothers, wives, sisters, aunts, furmamas, professionals, entrepreneurs, from all walks of life and ages, forged together by the path of adversity, pain, sacrifice, and life lessons. Yet in the beauty, in life's mess, from darkness, transcends the indomitable strength that only a woman warrior possesses. In coming together, we are stronger together, as united VALKYRIES are compassionate yet fierce in battle on heaven and earth.

It has been our salvation, for physical, mental health, and social connection. Whatever your personal reason for paddling, we want to be there to support and cheer you on.

Whether you're an experienced paddler already, looking to get more water time to uplevel your game or extra training for Team Alberta, Nationals, CCWC aspirations, or fitness minded but a newbie keen to put in the work and learn, we welcome the diversity everyone has to offer.

Join us for our exciting Launch & Mingle social on Saturday, Nov 4, 2023 @ 2:00pm at Prairie Dog Brewing to learn about our off season training program and the 2024 paddle season! 🗡️🖤🪽

Grateful for another Calgary Festival under wraps, a weekend of beautiful people, beautiful weather, and connection to our water. Proud of the heart our team demonstrated, with a 2nd place in the Mixed A Consolation Final and 3rd in the Hillbilly Barrel Race, our Men in Bro Bro Bro Your Boat cinching 3rd place in the Open with @dragnum_dragonboat , and our Women in Redsteady having a hard fought 4th place with @rocksteady_db in the B Finals. Huge props to the @yycdbs Board of Directors, Sponsors, Vendors, and Volunteers who tirelessly put in a fun and stellar weekend for our paddling community and city.

Sylvain Tesson, Der Schneeleopard (Rowohlt Verlag)

Munier will versuchen, Schneeleoparden zu fotografieren.

🎨GIVEAWAY🎨

"The greatest art aspires to the state of music." ~Anonymous

I have always felt that there is a strong connection between visual art and music.

I have connected with @honens , a Calgary based organization that hosts talented International pianists. Last fall, @honens hosted an online Laureate Circle Event, where I painted alongside the 2003 #HonensLaureate, Roberto Plano. While he played the piano, I painted an interpretation of his music. Hundreds of people tuned in online; the painting was auctioned off this past summer with all proceeds going to support these amazing musicians and the @honens programs.

I always play music while I paint. Often, music gets me out of my analytic mind into a more abstract, present-centred head space. Music and mark-making share a strong correlation; I have created a series of art cards that explore music in some way. I will be giving away five sets of 5 art cards during this take-over!

What you have to do is:

🎨Like this post

🎨Follow @amy.dryer and @lifeincalgary

Tag a friend who also likes art and music (one per comment)

Three names will be randomly drawn and contacted on October 24, 2021 This post closes on October 23, 2021

Wine and Music Pairing prep for a fundraiser in May.

My first step: the structure.

I listen for the articulations: staccato (popcorn popping); legato (sticking in caramel) or a combination, and which is more dominant throughout.

I listen to the compositional style of the piece: austere, complex, intricate or decadent.

This is how I decide on a still, sparkling or sweet wine.

What do you think my next step is?
