Part 2: Life of a Designer in NYC 🏙️ Navigating the NYFW hustle! Step behind the scenes with me at a Fashion Tech Week event in Chelsea—taking so much insight back into my design process. Here is what we covered across three key panels:
1️⃣ AI as a design tool: keeping human creativity first while using tech to streamline development
2️⃣ Tackling overproduction & waste: 100–150B garments are produced globally every year. We can drastically reduce waste by reducing physical sampling repurposing used fabric, auditing garment degradability, and adopting low-pollution manufacturing
3️⃣ Protecting real models: navigating new laws around digital replicas, clear consent, and ensuring human talent is fairly compensated when AI is involved

Our panel conversations highlighted sustainable business models, changing work environments at brands, regulations brands need to prepare for and what it means to balance creativity and business skills.

We’re excited to introduce the first two rounds of speakers and moderators joining us for the third annual Fusion Fashion Tech Summit: The Reimagination of Good Clothes: What You Take Off Matters.

On September 23, the Fusion Fashion Tech Society will bring our community together at LIM College in New York City during Climate Week NYC to explore one central question:

What does it mean to make, wear, and ultimately take off “good clothes” in a rapidly changing world?

This year’s convening is organized around seven interconnected communities spanning ancestral knowledge and storytelling, independent design, next-generation materials, fashion technology, supply chains and economic development, circular and regenerative systems, and consumer education and behavior change.

Our first two rounds of speakers reflect the interdisciplinary community at the heart of FFTS: designers, technologists, scientists, entrepreneurs, educators, researchers, cultural leaders, sustainability practitioners, and system builders working across different parts of the fashion ecosystem.

We’re grateful to every speaker and moderator joining us to share their expertise, challenge conventional thinking, and help us imagine what a more circular, innovative, equitable, and human-centered fashion industry can become.

And we’re not finished yet. Our third and final round of speakers will be announced soon.

Wait for the punchline…

Last weekend was full of friends from all over the world. Gatherings with people I love working with and fascinating people I’m always so stoked to see again. Style, travel, food, and wine may be what bring us together, but it’s the hang I always look forward to most.

Too many folks to thank and I wish I’d taken more photos. But an especially big thanks to @wmbrownproject and @yolandaedwards for building this great big group of cool people. And to @ladybugsph for being the most badass hostess.

It was honestly insane!

When people genuinely care: about sustainability, production, materials, the future, and the impact we leave behind. Not as a trend. Not as marketing. But for real!

I was especially inspired by “The Box Project”, such a simple image, yet such a powerful and painfully relevant way to talk about consumption and responsibility.
Women like this are deeply inspiring. And somehow, by coincidence, they are exactly the kind of women my painting “The Collar” is dedicated to.
