📣 #Dance2Vote Spotlight: "Until We Win" by @canosonico of @lascafeteras in collaboration with @_jstanley_, @movementartivist, and @jgsoulbird of @contra_tiempo!

A song for Solidarity. A poem to remember. So we never forget.

A community and company collaborative work in response to the brutal murders of Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and all other Black and Brown lives lost at the hands of police brutality, hate crimes, and the United States' [unjust]ice system. It is a call to all change makers to continue to create, learn, love, and remember ancestry. Until we win. Because we will win.

🗣️ "The work... reminds marginalized voices that our voices do matter. It is a reminder that there is an unjust system that needs to be changed, and that we have the democratic power to make that change." — @canosonico of @lascafeteras and collaborators

🗳️ Midterms are right around the corner. Make sure you have a plan to vote! Learn more at @danceusaorg! 🔗

This what a recovery station looks like in action. At @cafecitoazucar, I did 10 minute treatment sessions to get dancers back on the dance floor as fast as possible instead of sitting out injured or sore.

If you’re organizing a dance social, intensive, or competition and want on-site recovery care built in, let’s talk - it’s a feature your participants will genuinely remember! Send me a DM or email (in bio) to chat about your next event.

I’m patient but don’t wait too long! The sooner you take care of your body the longer your dance career can last.

And if you’re in the toilet for longer than 10 minutes you’re doing it wrong! 💩

Weak feet and ankles? Look up the chain. ⬆️

When the hips aren’t stable, the feet and calves pick up the slack, and these smaller muscles get tired fast. That’s why Tula’s “foot work” today was mostly hip work:
- glute and adductor strength for stability
- single leg balance to connect the hip to the foot
- calf and arch strength on top of a stable base

This is WIGGLE TRAINING: coached, exercise only sessions built around you body and your art form.
Try out some of these exercises and tell me how it goes in the comments 👇🏾

Reposting this because the number of times I had to teach someone how to kegel this week was astronomical 🤯

Research shows that the pelvic floor operates as a stabilizer muscle before movement. Many folks have dysfunction because their muscles are turning on too late or not at all! I always say STABILIZE BEFORE YOU MOBILIZE!

An isolated contraction should feel like a CLOSURE and LIFT of the anus and/or vagina. It is not: butt squeeze, sucking belly in, chest rise, squeezing inner thighs together.

THEN you can squeeze your butt to squat or stand up, THEN you can engage chest for a press, THEN you can step down from the curb, etc.

If you’re still having trouble, no worries. Reach out and come see me for physical therapy.

Jacob’s Pillow 2026 🌊

KaJe Movement Collective’s / Kara Jenelle’s ÌYÁguration ✊🏽

What a deep honor to be able to make music and go through the fire & back with such a powerful-gracious-loving-inspiring-heartwarming group of individuals. It was an experience of a lifetime to manage this company for this Pillow premiere, and I’m grateful for every second 💕

✨A memory from this trip I’ll never forget — seeing and feeling the wind, trees, sun on that mountain respond to the playing of my banjo. It was magical & also felt so deeply like home. The biggest reminder for me that this Afro-Diasporic sonic tradition was always meant to connect the realms - the realms of nature, of Divine Spirit, and of ancestors with our physical world. What an honor and a joy to be able to play in this Black banjo tradition.

The urge to just sleep on performance days is REAL. But I’m telling you get up and get active. Now this workout should not be too strenuous - think low load, beginner friendly, mind stimulating exercise. Just something to wake you up, lubricate joints, and activate key muscle groups! My go to is an easy dance fitness or beginner technique class, but if that’s not available then to the gym I go!

My focus is hip stability, full body movement, and core activation to help my body feel prepared for showtime! Getting this sweat in a couple hours before showtime is important for managing fatigue, warming up the body, and optimizing recovery.

Comment “WIGGLE” to start preparing for a long dance career!

I just want folks to feel good in their bodies. If I know I will tell you. If I don’t know, I will find out. I want to create routines that you can stick to. That feel good in your body, mind and spirit. Sessions at the Wellness Wiggle are heavily collaborative, individualized, and tailored to your needs.

Perfect for one person is not perfect for everyone, which is why each session is highly personalized to your goals, level, and challenges. Let’s work together to build something perfect for you!

People think skipping workouts on vacation = relaxation. For me it’s the opposite - moving my body IS the reset.

It’s not about “staying on track” or earning my food or any of that noise. It’s nervous system regulation. A workout in the morning changes the entire chemistry of my day - I show up calmer, clearer, more present for whatever the day actually holds.

And yeah, also the pump before I put on that dress with the cutouts and head to the beach. Both things can be true at the same time 😅

Shocking! Groundbreaking! I know! DANCERS - your body deserves the same care and conditioning you’d give any elite performer. Save this as your reminder. 💪🏾
