Separation is about body control, efficiency, and understanding how to move.

These are some of the drills I use to help WRs develop the tools to create separation when it matters most.

Every drill has a purpose. Every rep should translate to the field.

DRILL 01 | LATERAL BOUNDS 🫆

WHAT: Develop lateral explosiveness, strength & control.

WHY: Builds force production for releases, top of the route & after the catch.

KEY: Create lateral separation & explode into the next movement.

DRILL 02 | DUCK WALK 🫆

WHAT: Quick, violent lateral movements using your insteps.

WHY: Forces defenders to react laterally, creating opportunities to attack their leverage.

KEY: Use violent head, shoulder & arm action to shift side to side and explode in/out of space. The ability to move defenders at will is an elite trait to have.

DRILL 03 | DOUBLE UP 🫆

WHAT: Two violent, explosive steps designed to manipulate a defender.

WHY: Creates separation by forcing defenders to commit in the opposite direction. Effective at all three levels of route running.

KEY: Sell the first move with your entire body, then explode out of the second step. Essential movement for Elite WRs.

DRILL 04 | DIME CUTS 🫆

WHAT: Explosive single-leg cuts at multiple angles.

WHY: Develops the ability to change direction instantly and create separation with one decisive step.

KEY: Drive force into the ground with one foot and explode out of the cut. The ability to cut on a dime at any angle is a lethal weapon for elite WRs.
