Best of celebrated the best writers & short works from the PlayGround-LA 14th season through a lineup of 6 short plays originally developed through the Monday Night PlayGround staged reading series. Introducing Group 6 from our RomCom & Heartbreak Workshop 3 through the @ladirectorslab! Director @k.osswrites Writer @latinadirector Actor @iveeba Actor @serg.gavidia DP @fjuarezdp Intimacy Coordinator @_juliabelanova Director Kay - “As a Director in the RomCom Workshop, this was a game changing experience! Working with an intimacy coordinator elevated everything, from rehearsals to filming to even just communication on set. As someone who is moving forward directing her first feature (YAY!), this was just the thing I needed to gain confidence in my skills, learn new ones, and have fun on the way! I mean, to have someone else secure the location, cast talent, hire crew, schedule it all, curate a selection of scripts for me to pick from, all so I can focus on my responsibilities as a director? That’s almost unheard of in the indie world! It was such a relief to just come in and play. Yes, there are still plenty of challenges, but with less to worry about, you can really focus on just your role as a director. And I’m so pleased with the final edit - I’m sharing it with everyone! If you want to practice your directing skills in a safe and supported environment surrounded by the most encouraging community, this is the BEST in-person event for you!” 📸 by @bahareh.co 📍 @sotostages 👉🏼 Head to the link in bio to sign up for our email list to find out when our next workshop will be!

Introducing Group 4 from our RomCom & Heartbreak Workshop 3 through the @ladirectorslab! Director @munwalkr Writer @latinadirector Actor @moon_chola Actor @freshfreckles DP @andressacor Intimacy Coordinator @_juliabelanova Director Dave: “As a director, I came in hoping to stretch beyond my usual creative process. Not to reinvent the wheel, but to trust the words, the collaboration, and the moment. This workshop gave me permission to do that. What made it special wasn’t just the script or the scene, it was the environment. The space created here felt safe, honest, and collaborative, which allowed the actors, intimacy coordinator, and DP to bring their full selves to the work. That kind of trust can’t be faked, it has to be built. And this workshop built it beautifully. I was able to experiment, push my visual instincts, and explore new emotional terrain with actors who brought truth and boldness to every take. I came in with a plan, but I also left room for discovery. And that blend of preparation and surrender ended up being the most rewarding part. This was more than a workshop. It was a reminder of why we tell stories in the first place. I’m walking away proud, inspired, and excited to do it all again.” 📸 by @bahareh.co 📍 @sotostages 👉🏼 Head to the link in bio to sign up for our email list to find out when our next workshop will be!
