15 main artists, 6 openers, 9 venues, and so many amazing memories

this year started with tickets to 3 shows. i had every intention of taking it slow. then hozier dropped tour dates. and then rooney announced a tour. and then the all things go lineup dropped. and then i discovered the amazing talent of @bostaloch . and then i made the spontaneous decision to travel 5.5 hours to see @phantomplanet . and then i decided to just buy the conan gray tickets. by the end of year, i had 9 more shows under my belt, and i don’t regret a single one 🥹

this year had so many special concert moments. i got to see my favorite musician of all time 3 times. i got to MEET my two favorite bands ever and actually got to talk to them. and i got to meet my beautiful @jillyconnolly , who is one of the few people that makes me feel sane in my obsession with rooney.

meeting @robertschwartzman was one of the best moments of my life. i know they say to never meet your idols, but i couldn’t disagree more. robert is kind, genuine, and so down to earth. he made me feel so seen when we were speaking. there was no rush. i had his full attention, and he really listened to me. i’ll keep that moment close to my heart forever 🩷

meeting @phantomplanet was another item crossed off the bucket list for me. i was able to express my deep appreciation for how their music has changed me and how it’s helped me. i’m also so happy i was able to give them the letter i wrote them expressing even more of my gratitude, in words i knew i wouldn’t be able to get out in front of them. i also got to meet the amazing @samfarrar and hugged the elusive @alexandergreenwald and the insanely talented @phantomdarren 💜

seeing @ashemusic was so incredibly special. i was so sad that i missed the fault line tour, and i was even more heartbroken when the fun while it lasted tour got cancelled, so i’m sure you can imagine the immense joy i felt when she announced this tour. just once would have been special, but seeing her three times was just so unbelievably wonderful. i had the most memorable experiences at those shows 🤍

here’s to all the incredible shows i’ll see and the wonderful people i’ll meet in 2026 🫶

odu was not my first or second choice. it was actually my last choice, and i only chose it because they gave me the most money (full ride), and coming from a low income family, that was more than what i could ask for. in hindsight, that was the best decision i couldve made.

being first generation everything comes with so many hardships that is so hard to explain to others. from packing up one day in vietnam to go live in the us where we had no money, to learning english on my own, to filling out college applications. i was all alone and so confused on what the “correct” thing to do was, but i saw it through, and i am so glad i did.

my mental health journey is something that i openly share with others in the hopes of destigmatizing it, and i normally approach it jokingly, but it is a huge deal to me and affects how i live my day to day life. there were times where i didnt want to make it to the next day, where everything felt meaningless and stared at the darkness to fall asleep because no tears would come out because i was so numb. i was able to overcome those struggles, but each day is different and some days are much better than others. letting people in is always better than shutting them out when theyre trying to help.

countless hours of studying, staying up through the night, and so many energy drinks are responsible for my success. also responsible was the imposter syndrome, headaches had, and full on breakdowns. there were so many instances of me thinking that im in the wrong major or that i should just stop, but thats not what i nor my parents came here for. we came here for a better future and although its a scary place right now, my future here is much better than anything i can dream of in vietnam.

to all my friends that ive made during my college journey and to all of those who stuck around, thank you so much. i would not be the same person that i am today and definitely not as sane without you. you mean the world to me and i am so glad to have had the opportunity to be in your lives.

that little girl who once didnt speak english is now the first one in her family to ever have a bachelors degree :)
