First and foremost I thank God the Author and Finisher of my faith, the ONE and ONLY TRUE, LIVING GOD because this capstone wouldn’t exist without HIM. I thank everyone who came out to support me and shout out to my family for driving 4 hours to see God work through me. I couldn’t have imaged that I would have a full house for my first production ever. I first received revelation for “Am I Allowed To Say That?” 2 years ago and spent about 2 years working on the script. I want to give a special thanks to my director @_justusharris and stage manager @official_fieldzy for 3 months of driving hours to and from rehearsal even while dealing with their own lives. Y’all were a great support system and I thank God for showing me favor with your presence in my life.

Additional thanks to:
Professor Velasco
Professor Bartlett
Miss Desiree
Mr. Noah
Carlos
Ani
Rodney
Brian
Josh
W
BSU Theatre
Thank you for all your help.

It is clear to me that this capstone is bigger than me and I’m thankful that my prayers were answered, that not only was I changed through this process but God used me to reach other people’s lives. Now I can truly say that I am allowed to say that.

& last but not least I want to thank Jesus again because GOD DIDDDDDD

“Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭43‬:‭5‬ ‭

“Am I Allowed to Say That” is a one woman production about the internal struggle between what you’ve believed about God versus the truth. Wrestling with questions that make you question if your faith is sincere. Wrestling with the permission to feel freely as a Christian. What do you do when your faith is tested?

Written and performed by Genesis Bratcher as her Senior Capstone

#FacesOfHBCUs: @_justusharris @bowiestateuniversity 🐶🖤💛

“My name is Justus Harris, and I am a proud graduate of Bowie State University, Class of Fall 2025. Choosing to attend an HBCU was intentional for me. I wanted to be surrounded by people who looked like me, who came from similar backgrounds, and who understood my experiences. For the first time, I was not a minority. I was part of a community where I felt seen, supported, and understood.

My journey at Bowie State allowed me to fully immerse myself in my passion. As a Theatre Arts major with a concentration in Acting and Directing, I found my place in the Theatre Department. Serving as an Executive Producer gave me the opportunity to oversee productions and bring creative visions to life. It pushed me to grow as both a leader and an artist while holding me accountable to a high standard of excellence.

Some of my favorite memories came from the culture and experiences that make HBCUs so special. From the energy of homecoming to events like Torch Fest and Midnight Munchies, there was always something bringing students together. I also had the opportunity to be part of the DTLR tour, which was a standout moment during my time at Bowie. These experiences created memories that I will carry with me for life…..”
