MY NAME IS KAM HANSEN, I’M FROM DALLAS TX, AND I’M AN ALPHA OMICRON PI!!💗🐼

Being a Gamma Chi was such a rewarding experience. I’m so incredibly grateful for my cos @ivy.hartman and @lauren.kusel who supported me, shared laughs with me, and taught me so much about being a leader. I’m so inspired by the both of them as role models and Panhellenic woman. This experience made me so proud to be a Panhellenic woman and I fell in love with my chapter all over again! I love all my dear PNMs who found their forever home here on campus and who got to learn more about themselves through this process. Each conversation and memory I will cherish with me forever! 🫶🥰
Officially signing off,
Kamhellenic

Nate and I are making the trek back to Fort Worth from dropping Brooklyn off at Wayland, and he asked me how I am doing and I immediately say “I’m fine.” He calls me out and says, “You got your walls up?” And I nod my head yes.

The truth is I’m not quite sure what exactly I’m feeling…I can’t quite pin it down. As I look at the window, watching row after row of cotton pass by, trying to sort through what I’m feeling, the best I can come up with is the imagery of a tornado of emotions within my heart.

Swirling within me is…
An intense pride in who Brooklyn is as a person.
Excitement for her as she begins this new adventure.
Anticipation for what this volleyball season will bring.
Joy in the relationship we’ve built over the years.
Confidence that she is a strong, independent woman who is equipped and determined to succeed.

Yet all of that is interlaced with some sadness. I’m sad that her legs won’t be propped up on our kitchen table every morning as she drinks her coffee.
I’m sad that she won’t be there to insert her humor into every conversation we have around the table.
I’m sad that she won’t be there to walk with me after dinner.
I’m sad that Tatum won’t have someone to bicker or laugh with on the way to school.
I could go on and on, but mostly I’m sad about all the little things we’ll miss without her daily presence.

About the only emotion I’m not currently experiencing is worry. I’m not worried about Brooklyn. I have no doubt that whatever she faces in this new phase of life, good or bad, easy or hard, she’s going to come out on top.

Saying goodbye is hard. Jimmy Dugan once said, “…the hard is what makes it great.” For me, I have to twist his words a bit. It’s the great that makes it so dang hard. The relationships we all have with Brooklyn are so great. The presence she has within our home is so great. The joy she brings to our lives is so great. And that’s what makes it hard.

Last week, Brooklyn and I were blessed to spend our days surrounded by absolute beauty…the beauty of God’s creation and the beauty of sweet friendships.

We snorkeled, luau-ed, ate, porch sat, got some workouts in, milked a goat, boogie boarded, explored lava tubes, and laughed…a lot.

Brooklyn is drawn to the water like a moth to a flame. I think we’ve deprived her soul keeping her in the middle of Texas her whole life. Whether it be a wave or a waterfall, each ripple calls her name…

I’m so thankful for this trip. I’m even more thankful for the girls and the mommas we get to call our community. 🥰
