I dedicated a lot of time to photography this year, I feel like my approach has definitely changed, creating images that speak has made me look for more than just aesthetically pleasing images. Now I see myself trying to impose and excavate meaning from the world around me. Photography archives these ideas and lets them last.

My photography ethos is make people feel. My practice requires me to be out in the world. That’s where the inspiration is.

I’ve gotten so much better at noticing when the world around me has something to say and just trusting that sense that tells me there’s a photo here.

A house into my Home.

Last year, I was a junior, recovering and reflecting. My sophomore year had been tumultuous, & it became clear I needed to find a space that felt like home, a place where community & camaraderie existed unconditionally.

I was administratively deferred from Howard University, which gave me time to reset. I stayed at Morehouse, telling myself I was only there for academics, to strengthen my transfer to Howard but with time, my heart led me differently.

Isolation wasn’t healing. I reconnected with my LLC brothers Alex, KB, and Keron, rebuilding bonds rooted in trust & loyalty. My bond with Kam and P2 deepened, brothers whose love wasn’t a pump fake, but real and unwavering. I rediscovered a friendship with Trent, my suh, and built a bond with Landon through shared turbulence, friendships full of ki’s ki’s and understanding. My uncles Dean Mayers & Dean Davis became guides, and my sisters at CAU & Spelman gave me refuge and love when all was heavy. That community and camaraderie found me, that light in me became prominent, permanent, it stayed & so did I.

Morehouse has taught me about my manhood. It integrated me into a culture once unfamiliar to me, both Black & Gay. It taught me how to navigate conversations with gay men, straight men, masculine men, creative men, shy men, and men still finding themselves. Morehouse taught me how to be a man.

My life shifted. I found my tribe, studied abroad in Mexico, made the volleyball team, and softened. My life turned up. The path to Howard dissolved, not because it lacked value, but because my life there and those friends-turned-family will always exist. The pride I once lost, the pride I used to wear loudly beyond Morehouse, I found again. The house I walked into at 18 is the home I’ll walk out of in five months. I’m thankful I continued walking, even when the path beneath me burned.

To my gay brothers of Morehouse: your experience is yours. Make it. Challenge the environment. Move with honesty, compassion, & grit. Be the candle that is spoken of, for your people, your tribe, for yourself.

Last year was a real notable one, too real, All at my Home.🏡

With love,

Your Morehouse Brother Noah ♡

As the curtains close on the quarantined but never alone, the delayed but never denied, and the tried but never undetermined to succeed class of 25’ emotions are at an all high. Rain doesn’t stop the house as this class’s outro was just as rampant as their intro causing lightning and thunder throughout atlanta during the annual yearly commencement. This thunder may have caused the class to break tradition but spirits were not lost as the 505 members of the class still walked across the tear soaked grass onto a more familiar stage. Congrats to the newest Morehouse men and their albeit wet but thunderous legacy into the history archives.
