🎶Meet the voices behind Voices Unlocked

Des is an assistant teacher who strongly believes in advocating for others. Their most recent roles include Veronica in WCT’s Heathers and Janis in RCT’s Mean Girls.

Lillian is a junior at Wayne State studying vocal music education. She has performed theatre and opera all around the Metro Detroit area. Recent roles include Heather Mac in WCT’s Heathers, Penny Pingleton in Rose Above’s Hairspray and Jane Seymour in 2ns Stage’s Six.

JQ is one half of the directing team for Voices and can’t wait to share the stage with some of her best friends. She is a study coordinator at THINK Lab and a pre-vet student. Her most recent roles include the titular role in Mary Poppins, Jo March in Little Women and Fiona in Shrek (all at Warren Civic Theatre)

“we’re having big fun!”

never in my life did i think i’d be able to pull off the role of a straight high school quarterback as a trans man, but I did it and it was one of the most gender affirming experiences ever (crazy, i know). kurt kelly is the first “villain” role i’ve had the honor of playing, and even though he’s a total dick i would play him again and again without question. this role challenged me in so many ways, mentally and physically, and i’m so thankful to our stellar production team for believing in my and guiding me to success.

to both amazingly talented casts, i thank you for being so supportive and accepting of me. i thank you for making this show truly something special. i thank you for all of the fun rehearsal memories. and lastly, i thank you all for being you. never change🩶.

to our production staff, i thank you for having faith in me. i thank you for allowing us all to (hopefully) make your dreams for this show come true. i thank you for bringing so many new lifelong connections into my life. and lastly, i thank you for being the badass role models you are and will continue to be🩶

dear diary…
veronica sawyer has been my dream role since i was 12, and i still can’t believe i got to step in her shoes for a few months.
this show was unforgettable. i am so thankful to have been apart of it, and to have been able to meet and work alongside so many amazing people.
