Introducing Lisa Long, speaker in the panel “Exhibiting Artists' Cinema” at 𝐋𝐨𝐨𝐩 𝐒𝐲𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐮𝐦: Images that Move Us Forward. Commissioning, Producing, Exhibiting and Collecting Artists’ Cinema (20-21 Nov) led by Filipa Ramos @filipaaaaaaaaaaa.

🎤 Lisa Long @_lisa_long_ is a curator specialized in contemporary and time-based art. She is currently the Artistic Director of the Julia Stoschek Foundation in Berlin and Düsseldorf, where she has overseen the program since 2019. Recent group exhibitions include: “After Images” (2024), “Unbound: Performance as Rupture” (2023), “at dawn” (2022) and “A Fire in My Belly” (2021), among others. Long has also organized numerous solo exhibitions with artists such as Sophia Al Maria, Meriem Bennani, Stephanie Comilang & Simon Speiser, (La)Horde, WangShui, or Young-jun Tak.

“Is it important to give [spectators] a break?” 🖇️

Curator and Writer Lisa Long @_lisa_long_ tells us the importance of rhythm as a narrative tool when curating time-based art. How should visitor experience be considered when sculpting the space for a work?

Lisa Long is a curator specializing in contemporary and time-based art. She is the former Artistic Director of the Julia Stoschek Foundation (2018-2025) (@juliastoschekfoundation) and founder and director of Companion Culture (@companion_culture), a curatorial agency that fosters projects at the forefront of contemporary art by connecting companies, foundations, entrepreneurs, and patrons with artists and institutions.

On September 10, Crit Club Berlin takes on the question: Should art be competitive?

This edition brings together: 
Kate Brown, art critic and curator based in Berlin 
Flaka Haliti, artist and educator based between Prishtina and Berlin
Kabir Jhala, journalist based in between London and Mumbai
Lisa Long, curator and writer, based in Berlin
Abbas Zahedi, artist based in Ladbroke Grove, West London

Crit Club, conceived by Cem A., stages debates where teams argue both sides of an impossible question,then switch positions midway.
In Berlin, the intensity of American football comes into play through the Berlin Adler.

Presented by TRAUMA in collaboration with Texte zur Kunst, as part of Berlin Art Week.

Presented by @traumaisforever in collaboration with @textezurkunst , the performance by @cem_____a brings back the debate-as-sport format. Two teams will argue for and against an impossible question before switching sides mid-game. True to its spirit, every showdown comes with a sport on the sidelines.

This time, arguments will collide with tackles as @berlinadler brings American football into the arena of art criticism.

The Berlin line-up includes @abbzah, @flakahaliti_, @kabye_west and @_lisa_long_, moderated by @kate__brown.

First staged by Trauma in 2024 at its original venue, featuring a muay thai boxing match, Crit Club has since traveled to Hong Kong, Utrecht, Dubai, London, Bucharest, Zagreb, Düsseldorf, Kassel, Ghent and Freiburg. It now returns to Berlin, organized in collaboration with Texte zur Kunst on the occasion of their September issue no. 139 on Sports.

“The group exhibition AFTER IMAGES proposes a recalibration of our relationship to seeing and to contemporary image culture. Departing from image-based practices like film and video, for which the Julia Stoschek Foundation is best known, the exhibition expands the visual realm to encompass the haptic and the multisensorial, and moves from the space of the screen to the embodied and experiential path of the visitor. The featured works introduce a broad definition of time-based art, to include kinetic sculptures, sound and light installations, film-based installations, olfactory interventions, scores, and extended reality.”
