Alexis Malflores. Canberran Toy Artist. Monshter Workshop soon. 🇵🇭
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
A look back at Monshter Making with the wonderful Alexis Malflores, where scraps of felt, paint, thread and plenty of imagination became tiny creatures with BIG personalities. Over three cosy evenings, our makers stitched, painted, accessorised and brought their very own Monshters to life. Thank you to everyone who came along and made a little Monshter of their own! Made possible by @visa in partnership with @main.streetaustralia

Monshter Making is a cosy 3-part beginner-friendly toy design workshop where participants will create their own weird, cute, sentimental, or slightly cursed plush toy from scratch. We’ll spend a few winter evenings choosing colours, painting faces, sewing tiny creatures together, and slowly bringing them to life in a relaxed and welcoming space. Week 1 focuses on sewing and building the plush body, Week 2 is all about painting faces and adding personality, and Week 3 covers final assembly, accessories, clothing, and finishing touches. At the end of the series, participants will be able to photograph their creations in a cute toy photography setup. No prior sewing, painting, or toy-making experience is needed. The workshop is designed specifically for beginners, with guidance from both the instructor and a written guide that participants can take home. Alexis Malflores is a Canberran toy artist who breathes whimsy into everyday life. Her previous works, shown at Craft + Design Canberra, transformed complex topics like gambling into playful miniature dioramas filled with colour and charm. She loves crafting, storytelling, and community, which she weaves together through creative events focused on making art feel approachable, social, and welcoming for everyone. Participants will progressively create their monshter over three weeks: Workshop 1 - Thursday 25 June Workshop 2 - Thursday 2 July Workshop 3 - Thursday 9 July All workshops run from 6:30pm-8:30pm Tickets Three ticketing tiers available, or name your price. Total price includes all 3 workshops. Visit the YAH What’s On page for more details! Link in bio! Made possible by Visa in partnership with Main Street Australia @main.streetaustralia

Meet our volunteer Alexis! Name: Alexis Host of: Craft in Common: Sip & Stitch sessions and The Hearth Favourite food: Portuguese tarts, sushi and raw seafood What about crafting encourages people to connect? From first-hand experience, I’ve seen how crafting invites softness and sincere, non-ironic appreciation. I think that’s what helps us break through the emotional walls we put up to survive everyday stress, chores, and bills. Having a shared interest is part of it sure... but the deeper part is giving ourselves permission to play, experiment, and notice beauty in each other’s small gestures. That’s where real connection begins. We feel very lucky to have Alexis as part of our team! ❤️

🌘 Get Ready for The Hearth: Tarot Edition 🕯️ This fortnight The Hearth is getting witchy! Join us for a Tarot themed event where we’ll work together to build a custom tarot deck. Decorate, remix or totally redesign your own tarot cards. Paint, draw, stain, and collage. Cards and materials will be provided but feel free to bring anything from home as well. Spare stickers, old magazines, a cereal box… anything goes! Imbue them with your own meanings and memories, and at the end of the day, we’ll have a completely unique deck, filled with the collective wisdom of The Hearth community. 🔮 Free tarot readings will also be available throughout the afternoon! Have your fortune told, gain some clarity on a question that’s been bugging you recently, or simply indulge in a quiet moment of internal reflection. Let the cards fall where they may… Regular crafting will continue as always so feel free to BYO projects in addition to the other activities. 🩷 The Hearth is supported by @connectup2617 #canberra #canberracreatives #canberralocals #tarot #witch #tarotcardreading #canberraevents #createandconnect

I love to crochet🧶 Ok it was time that I made a crochet comic! Now that it's gotten colder in Canberra, I embraced the old granny aesthetic. Warm tea, a cat besides me, all while I crocheting my projects with the TV on. I love it. Hey it's catching on!!! I spot other people wearing their self made crochet cardigans and I love their look! Do you ever see yourself with a crochet hook or knitting needles down the line?
