🇳🇱 SINDS 2017. Marco’s favoriet? De allereerste poster uit 2017. En daarna? Die van 2025. Welke Break A Leg Dance Battle-editie is jouw favoriet? Drop het jaartal of de editie hieronder 👇 En welke kleur zullen we dit jaar uitbrengen? // 🇬🇧SINCE 2017. ONE NAME BEHIND OUR ARTWORK. Marco van Bijsteren @_maam.studio has been creating the artwork for the Break A Leg Dance Battle since 2017. With every edition, he knows how to capture our energy and translate it into visuals. His inspiration comes from music, the city and everything happening around it. From 80s hip-hop to jazz, soul and funk, from vintage design and record covers to Art Deco — it all comes together in his own distinctive style. His projects for, among others, Steppin’ Into Tomorrow @steppinintotomorrow and Wicked Jazz Sounds @wickedjazz also show how strongly music and visual art are connected in his work. And by now, we’ve built up quite a collection of Break A Leg artwork. Marco’s favorite? The very first poster from 2017. And after that? The 2025 edition. Which Break A Leg Dance Battle edition is your favorite? Drop the year or edition below 👇 And what color should we release this year? #graphicdesign #noaiart #art #hiphop dancebattle

🗓 Sunday, September 27th, 2026 🕖 Time: 19:00 - 23:00 📍 Doka, Amsterdam 🇸🇷 Paramaribop, Funky Kawina & Su-Fusion 'A journey through the blend between Surinamese traditions and Black American music traditions' In celebration of the vinyl release of a unique 80s recording by Surinamese keyboardist Sonny Khoeblal and the band Thalamus, Steppin’ provides a sonic journey through various Surinamese music traditions. After the country’s independence in 1975, experimentations with Black American genres flourished. After hearing @sonnykhoeblal’s recording on the @rushhourmusic compilation 'Surinam Funk Force', Steppin’ sought a collaboration with Sonny to showcase more from the archive. This led to the 7” vinyl release of Thalamus with two previously unreleased recordings, which will be released on Sept 25 by @wickedwaxmusic. The evening will engage with Surinamese music as well as the country’s history, which is the backdrop of the sound that emerged. Paramaribop is an urban experiment with Bebop, local music traditions like Kawina were melded with Funk and Sonny Khoeblal himself experimented with Jazz Fusion. Listen through the history of a country that is a reflection of the world. 🔊 Music selection by @mo.rights, @lucas_benjamin_ & @reigersrecords. This project has been supported by @podiumkunst.net_ 🖼 Artwork by @_maam.studio
