POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Where to begin… Yesterday, on Labor Day, I was looking through pictures on my camera roll when I came across one from my junior year of high school at the state meet. For those who ran with me and knew me personally, you already know the story. For a couple of years in high school, I was running while dealing with constant stomach ulcers — losing weight drastically, bleeding, and throwing up almost every day. It wasn’t until later that I realized the cause behind it all: I had a condition called gastritis that had gone untreated for years.

It was one of the biggest challenges of my life. I am so grateful and thankful to God, my family, my friends, my coaches, and my teammates for helping me through that obstacle. There truly is beauty in the struggle. Looking back, I wouldn’t change the experience, because it shaped who I am today. And by my senior year, after everything I went through, I was blessed to be a part of a state championship team — a victory that meant so much more because of the pain and perseverance behind it, and because I was able to share it with my teammates.

Oftentimes, when we pray to God for strength, courage, or anything at all, we expect our prayers to simply be handed to us. But through this experience, as difficult as it was, I realized that my prayers were answered — not by removing the struggle, but by giving me the opportunity to grow. To be honest, even before this, I had faced many struggles with school and social challenges because of my verbal apraxia. Ever since elementary school, my mom would wake me up at 5 AM every single day to study before exams, since I had trouble reading and retaining information. That consistency I learned from a young age carried me through those difficult times in high school and still carries me today — in my career and in my life.

I am truly thankful for God and for everyone who has come into my life. And since yesterday was Labor Day, I thought it was the perfect time to share this — a reminder that life itself can be very laborious, but also very meaningful.
