The moment we all waited for….the results

No matter the outcome I’m always grateful for a chance at something new 🤗

Last night we returned to MARTK’D for Roots & Routes Collectors Night, where Siana and I got to see our hand-painted turntables auctioned off to their new owners!

Even more special, my collector purchased both my turntable and its accompanying original painting, so the two pieces get to stay together. ❤️

A huge thank you to Dion and the entire MARTK’D team for inviting us to be part of this experience and creating an opportunity for our work to be exhibited alongside so many talented artists, featured on a billboard in the city, and finding a permanent home!

Congratulations to all of the artists and collectors!

Sometimes your next opportunity is literally an open door.

Over the last year, I’ve watched Art and Belonging Martkt become the space for artists, creatives, community, connection and growth. I’ve had the opportunity to contribute and sharpen my skills there as well.

A room to gather in. A wall to hang something on. A place where ideas get to become something real. None of that happens without someone being willing to open the door.

I’m incredibly grateful to Dion of @_martkd for doing just that - not only for me, but for so many people who have come through with something to share, something to build or simply a desire to belong.

But an open door still needs a community willing to help keep it open.

Tonight’s Roots + Routes: Collectors Night event is an opportunity to give something back.

Come see the work. Meet the artists. Buy something if you can. Bring somebody with you. Support the place that has made space for so many of us.

Community isn’t something we simply find. It’s something we choose to sustain.

See you tonight. 🖤

My pops’ picture hanging from the arch of Eastern Market!

When @iamlynzeemychael asked me about him, my voice started to crack. I couldn’t hide it and I didn’t want to. Some things you photograph. Some things you feel. That one was both.

Lynzee put Love, “Appreciation & Celebration” into words back when I showed at the Liquor Basket. Now, full circle, she captured the whole Eastern Market installation, presented by @designcoredet . The interview, the video, and my community speaking on the work in their own voices. That’s the archive working in real time.

Thank you Lynzee for giving the vision language. Thank you @designcoredet for the platform. Thank you to everybody who stood with the work.

This is why I do it. So the people who made us don’t get forgotten.

Overlook Nothing. Appreciate Everything.

Participated in 'Black Culture Across Borders' – a wonderful "Toronto meets Detroit" panel discussion today with Black art & design specialists @tura.cousins.wilson of @soca.architecture, @_martkd, and @kiana_designpro, moderated by @evaninwonderland of @cultured_mag, and organized by @novakovicto – a program of the Detroit Month of Design @designcoredet. We felt the love in the room!
