LISSSTEENN!! THIS is the PD that I always yearned for but never got in all my years as a middle school Math teacher.

Even when I wrote my @edutopia article on “Bringing a Culturally Responsive Lens to Math Class” over a year ago, I was just scratching the surface of what it truly means to be antiracist Math educator.

For my Math teacher friends out here, #IYKYK ! @nehajoya and @amplify.rj are partnering together to bring us a 2-hr collaborative learning experience on anti-racist and restorative approaches to Math education.

Who: K-12 Educators/Staff/Admin

When: Thursday, August 26th, 3:00-5:00pm PST/6:00-8:00pm EST

Cost: Sliding Scale $25-$75

Workshop Details:
This session is an introduction to what an anti-racist and restorative Math classroom could look and feel like. We will racialize what it means to be a “mathematician” and explore ways dominant Math curriculum and pedagogy cause harm to students of the global majority. Grounded in a shared understanding of anti-racist and restorative values, we will explore ways to adopt a culturally sustaining approach to Mathematics. We will also make connections to the research of Dr. Gholdy Muhammad and Zaretta Hammond.

The goal is to leave the session inspired, dreaming and ready to start engaging in restorative work with the Math geniuses in your community.

In this 2-hour learning experience you will:

✅Learn how racism manifests in Math Education

✅Discuss was Math education must be transformed for an anti-racist future

✅Engage with Math specific culturally sustaining, restorative, and anti-racist tools and practices.

✅Dream up your own anti-racist Math Classroom!
