Wowwww what a weekend. Just a couple lads from the west having a crack at the yellowfin tuna bite. @_mattabricc
Last weekend we come home empty handed which made the 4hr drive home a sad place to be but lit the fire.
This weekend we drove down 5hrs after work on Friday arvo, slept at the boat ramp and in the water at 4am. Punched out to the shelf and followed the birds. Hooked up pretty early but dropped it at the boat. After that we started hooking up to albacore pretty regularly landing about 7 or so. Hooked up 2 more yellow fin but pulling hooks. (0-3)
Around lunch time my first cast into a bust up I’m on to the one, bring it up to the boat for a gaff shot but it takes off and Matt drops the gaff. After 5 minutes of trying to retrieve the floating gaff and thinking what to do I bring around again and Matt 2 hand raw dogs the tail and rips it into the boat for our first landed yellowfin tuna, we were pumped to say the least. ( 1-4).
After giving Matty some tips and showing him what lure to use he goes and 1 ups me and hooks up a 45-50kg. Took both of us on the gaff to get him up and in. Unreal feeling and what a fish. (2-5)
Head back in to the ramp for a big stint on the fillet tables. Fill up the esky and head home for a 12am arrival.
All up landing 15 fish and keeping 2 yellowfin and 2 albacore. Not bad for the blind leading the blind.
Who wants tuna? Going cheap
