Weltevree Introduces The Picket Chair: A Playful Intersection of Craft, Geometry and Comfort

Michael Schoner is a German architect and designer known for his distinctive approach that blends architectural precision with playful creativity. After studying architecture in Darmstadt and Barcelona, he gained experience at renowned firms before founding his own studio in the Netherlands. His work spans architecture, interior, furniture and objects, characterised by clean lines, geometric clarity and handcrafted quality. He is fascinated with construction, geometry, space, mass and voids and twisting perception or creating double or multiple meanings.

“I believe we are all hardwired with a library of archetypical forms and I try to rediscover and reshuffle them.” - Michael Schoner

Weltevree Introduces The Picket Chair: A Playful Intersection of Craft, Geometry and Comfort

With the Picket Chair Schoner demonstrates that simplicity can be powerful. The Picket Chair is made of boards with two different widths: the narrow ones for the frame, the wide ones are assembled for the seat and the backrest which form triangles with the frame, stiffening out the construction. The seat and backrest do not touch thanks to a cut out which results in an elegant detail that seems to resemble folding hands or fingers interlocking. The logic of the cut-out in the board is borrowed from a Tirolian balcony railing where the seams between boards are used to create perforations that also have an ornamental character.

Weltevree Introduces The Picket Chair: A Playful Intersection of Craft, Geometry and Comfort

Designed by Michael Schoner, the Picket Chair has a striking detail: the seat and backrest intersect in an unexpected way, making it appear as if parts of the chair are floating; a subtle detail that turns construction into poetry.

Weltevree presents the Picket Chair

The Picket Chair, designed by Michael Schoner, features a distinctive detail: the seat and backrest intersect in an unexpected way. This way the design creates the illusion that elements of the chair are floating.

For a few more days one of our curtains is shown in @deaanschouw in Rotterdam.
De Aanschouw is a micro-gallery that sticks like an art parasite to the facade of @cafe_hensepeter. Since 2001 it exhibits the work of a Rotterdam based artist, every week a different one. We are the 1254th artists in the row.

We really love De Aanschouw for its persistence. Every week something new appears, and that rhythm has become something rare. De Aanschouw reminds us that doing something out of care and curiosity is enough. It keeps going, simply because it feels important to keep doing it.

Many thanks to @pippasschier for the invite. Still on show until Thursday, then we’ll be replaced by lovely @thedetailhunter.

Our catalogue of products is the direct outcome of close collaborations with designers and artists, and a clear expression of Grymsdyke Farm’s method.

The Farm Shop is conceived as a platform for exploring modes of production grounded in vernacular design knowledge, visual language and materiality.

5TRACKS is here!
Next to Breda’s railway station, 5TRACKS is all about movement and transition.
Together with Edhv, we shaped its identity around the Five Tracks of Connectivity: hybridity, creativity, wellness, and new rituals.

“A workscape that stimulates, surprises, and connects.”

The result is a colourful, tactile interior that adapts to every need, whether it’s focusing, meeting, or relaxing. We challenged ourselves to create new furniture, which grew into a complete collection. From streetlight-inspired lamps to cloud-like curtains, socket rocks, and track tables. Every detail reflects movement and tomorrow’s way of working.

Great news from Antwerp! The first part of the Slachthuiswijk public space, the central part of the Vetten Osplein, has officially been opened. Local residents immediately embraced the play fountain on the intimate square of Lobroekplein which serves as the living room for the neighbourhood.

Together with @Sweco_Belgium, @Posadmaxwan and Buiting Advies, @LOLAlandscapearchitects designed a green public space for the former slaughterhouse district of Antwerpen which will see its number of residents increase over the coming years. Through an extensive participatory process, we redeveloped the industrial and car-focused area into a green oasis with more space for pedestrians and cyclists.

With the green spaces in the neighborhood connecting to surrounding green areas it makes for a pleasant habitat for birds, butterflies and bees. And with the abundance of plants and trees it makes for pleasant living by reducing heat stress, wind and noise. Water also plays a big part in the design, with water being collected and reused in and around the neighborhood.
