Going Underground UK wants you to get a load of this early 1977 promo poster for the Damned’s first album, Damned Damned Damned. This was the very first punk LP released in the UK, making this original promo an important piece of punk history. Released before the Pistols and Clash made a record, the album was fast, ferocious and incendiary in Thatcher’s socially divided Britain. From their London suburbs, the Damned has influenced tons of other hardcore, goth and alternative artists along the way, and they still tour with 3 original members (Dave Vanian, Captain Sensible and Rat Scabies) all in the fold. That is neat neat neat!
Don’t forget to give me a shout if you’d like to see a promo or two of your favorite band featured.

Going Underground UK hopes you are having a great week. If not, perhaps it may help to down tools, put your feet up and allow one of the smoothest voices (ever to grace this planet) to make it that little bit better. Marvin Gaye’s voice was pure gold; it could express any and every emotion imaginable, and he really didn’t have to try very hard. What a gift! Hope you like these 2 old original promos, the first a 1972 Motown Monsters promo for Marvin’s magnificent socially-conscious “What’s Going On” LP. Absolute masterpiece. It was such a massive departure from Berry Gordy’s motown assembly line of hits. The album is a social commentary on the Vietnam War and the social injustice of the period told from the perspective of a returning soldier. The 1981 poster for Marvin’s “In Our Lifetime”promotes an album that was much more introspective and personal. It still addressed serious themes, but Marvin himself was dealing with a whole lot of personal issues at this stage. He was gone way too soon, in 1984, aged just 44 and shot by his dad. Shocking!
On to happier thoughts, What’s Going On very soon is the fact that Going Underground’s Vintage Poster Pop Up Sale is just 3 days away! The address again: 169 N Glassell St at the Orange Circle. Take some time to enjoy some vintage music memorabilia from the 70s to the 90s. I’ll be there Saturday May 2nd from mid morning.

Formed in 1980 by the remaining members of Joy Division (following the tragic suicide of lead singer Ian Curtis), New Order took their unmistakable dark and moody basslines and went all in on an “electro” kick. The new sound was brighter and upbeat and became massive in UK club culture. The bold change alienated many Joy Division loyalists but captured a whole new audience of weekend ravers. Going Underground UK loves these 2 vintage promos. The first is a 1984 original for the mega hit “Blue Monday”. This promo features the song lyrics and was the creation of renowned UK artist/cartoonist Ray Lowry. It’s a very cool piece. The second is for the 1993 release of “World: The Price of Love”. Although these two tracks were produced nine years apart, the band had lost none of its pulsing beat! Give it a listen and watch your feet start moving!
On that note, don’t forget to get your feet moving over to the Orange Circle in Olde Town on Saturday May 2nd where you’ll find Going Underground UK’s Pop Up Sale at 169 N Glassell St. I hope you will enjoy the large collection of 70s, 80’s and 90s promo posters I’ll be bringing.

Join Going Underground UK in celebrating the 50th anniversary of the release in April 1976 of the debut album by the Ramones. With a look and sound that punched the music scene right in the gut, four mates from Queens, NY, set about stripping Rock n Roll back to the raw. For them, in their leather bombers and ripped up jeans, it was about speed along with a healthy dose of rebellious attitude that mocked pretentious Prog Rock and over-produced studio artists of the day. No guitar solos. No excesses. No song more than 3 minutes long. Just 3 chords of bish bosh bash played at breakneck speed. Every punk band since has recognized their place and importance in music history. Take a closer look look at these 2 original promos from the 70s. From 1978, Road to Ruin was the band’s 4th album and 1977’s Sheena Is a Punk Rocker single made it into the UK charts as they toured with Talking Heads. Top notch band!
Going Underground UK will have many more vintage original promo posters like these at a Pop Up on Saturday May 2nd. Come find us at 169 N Glassell St at the Orange Circle in Olde Town and flip through the collection.

Emerging in the late 60s amid the dirt and grime of industrial Birmingham UK, where they’re born as tough as old boots, Black Sabbath created a heavy, dark, riff-based sound with lyrics focussed on war, fear and conflict. They were a million miles removed from the squeaky clean wholesome pop idols of the 60s. Intentional bad boys, their brooding style laid the foundation for the heavy metal bands that were to follow. Were they punk before there was punk? Going Underground UK hopes you get a kick out of these 2 vintage Sabbath promos. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath is a 1974 original. More than 50 years old, it is stark and simple. No frills. The promo from 1977 for the Greatest Hits album depicts scenes of death, destruction and war and is based on the sixteenth century painting by Pieter Bruegel titled “The Triumph of Death”. It says all you need to know about Ozzy and the band’s mindset in the early days!
Nothing to do on Saturday May 2nd? At a loose end? Head on over to the Going Underground UK Pop Up Sale at 169 N. Glassell St. in the Orange Circle and treat yourself to a vintage original piece of music memorabilia.

Fleetwood Mac’s emotionally honest 1977 pop-rock classic Rumours is widely considered one of the greatest and most important albums ever released both critically and commercially. It’s sales put it right up there with the Beatles and Michael Jackson. Mostly recorded up the road in Sausalito, the drama and relationship break-ups within the band gave rise to the raw honesty of the tracks. Going Underground UK thinks these 2 vintage promos for the album, tour and single ‘Go Your Own Way” are the bees knees! Both are 1977 originals, in great shape for almost 50 years and are ready to hang on a wall. Come see these and flip through many more from a range of music genres on May 2nd at my Pop Up Sale event in the City of Orange at 169 N Glassell.

Hailing from Coventry, The Specials revived Jamaican Ska music for a new generation. Creators of the mighty 2-Tone label, they were a cultural force making a huge statement in Thatcher’s depressing Britain of the 1970s. With lyrics that addressed unemployment, urban decay, youth violence, racism and social inequality, the band was socially aware but not preachy; danceable but deadly serious! Going Underground UK can’t say enough about these 2 vintage original promo posters. The first from 1979 for the debut album release, and the second from 1981 for the haunting single “Ghost Town”. Give it a listen today!
Come discover many more vintage promo posters like these I’ll be selling at my Pop Up on Saturday May 2nd at 169 N Glassell St. in the Orange Circle. And don’t forget to let me know the artists you’d like me to bring!

The Cure have been recording great music for more than 45 years. Have you listened to their 2024 album, “Songs of a Lost World”? It’s one of their very best. Going Underground UK loves these 2 classic promos for 2 of their most loved singles. The “Why Can’t I Be You” promo is an original from 1987 and “The Caterpillar” one is from 1984. Cool artwork for both promos was created by Parched Art a collaboration that included one of the band members, Porl Thompson. You’ll be able to see more vintage Cure promos like these at 169 N Glassell St. in the City of Orange on May 2nd. Hope you can make it to my pop up and let me know which bands you’d like to see featured.

Pink Floyd redefined what music could be, blending sound, emotion and imagination. Going Underground UK hopes you like these 2 rare original promos. On the right is a 1974 original for Dark Side of the Moon’s UK tour. You’ll recognize the pyramid motif. On the left is the 1980 promo for The Wall featuring Gerald Searle’s amazing artwork. Both albums challenged the listener to think, feel and explore and were a huge indluence on many bands. Come see these 2 vintage promos along with many others at my Pop Up at 169 N Glassell at the Orange Circle on May 2nd. I’ll bring a varied selection from my large collection, so send me a list if there are artists you’d be interested in.

From the opening drumline of Janie Jones, Side 1 Track 1 of The Clash’s 1977 debut album, it was clear that Punk Rock would never be the same again! Going Underground UK salutes Joe Strummer and the boys for their unwavering defiance of authoritarianism, facism, racism, social injustice and ignorance. Here are 2 great Original Clash promos from the 1970s. The first is from the 1977 release of the single “Complete Control”. The second dates from 1979 and is for the brilliant “London Calling”, a double LP that the band insisted on releasing at the price of a single. Huge middle finger to the record company. I have a number of original Clash promos like these and will be bringing whatever I can carry to my Pop Up on May 2nd at 169 N Glassell St in Olde Towne Orange. Should You Stay or Should You Go? Reach out and share your favorite 70s, 80’s and 90s artists and bands whose promos you’d like to see posted here.
