Life’s Ups, Downs, and Complete Power Outages

So there I was, losing electricity at 7 AM on a Sunday — and let me tell you, I now start every morning thanking god for electricity. This winter storm hit different. Like, 30 minutes away people were sipping hot cocoa while I was basically a climate refugee seeking asylum at my friends’ houses.
Four days without power turned into an accidental cooking show. I thanked my gracious hosts the only way I know how: by aggressively feeding them. Chili, soups, cookies — their bellies didn’t stand a chance.

But here’s where it got real: Nashville showed UP. We’re talking about elders who couldn’t leave their homes, unhoused neighbors facing the same brutal cold, and suddenly my survival mode kicked into overdrive. With the assistance of Council Women @terryvofornashville we located elderly folks in the area, arranged rides to warming shelters, and somehow pulled off distributing 800 warm empanadas to the community (shoutout World Central Kitchen for this miracle).

The lesson? Even if you and your neighbors just nod awkwardly when taking out the trash, PAY ATTENTION when disaster strikes. I’m so grateful for my little hood. 🫶🏾
