@climbwritekalman is a rare bird in climbing literature, primarily because he actually writes literature. His repertoire includes short stories, long stories, poetry, reportage, and even stage plays (which you can read in 𝘚𝘶𝘮𝘮𝘪𝘵 𝘑𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘭 324).

Here to celebrate @conservapucheguin and the conservation community 🤗 (TLDR? Chile is showing the way!)

This past Jan, I had a unique opportunity to perform at an event hosted by @patagoniachile raising awareness for an ongoing effort of @puelopatagonia and other organizations to buy a chunk of private land with the goal of protecting a significant region in Patagonia. Ambitious, but possible, and more importantly, necessary.

Naturally, after learning about this special area, a curious/FAAFO attitude led to a road trip to explore and experience it. Not prepared to backpack in Cochamó Valley, it was a 16 mi-ish RT in-and-out type of sitch; ‘twas certainly worth it. Though referred to as “The Yosemite of Chile,” and while one can see the similarities between the glacially carved valleys, they are NOT the same. Imagine hiking muddy, eroded trails thru a verdant rainforest with zero roads and cars outside of the parking lot near the trailhead. No drive-thru El Cap, Bridalveil Falls, or Tunnelview on this menu. If you’re not hoofing it, you’re on literal horses.

Encouragement from newly-made warm and wonderful friends to continue onto the Puelo River valley was heeded, and it felt possible to live another lifetime familiarizing oneself with this world. I could go on and on, and if you catch me in person, let’s chat. 😜

As is life’s unpredictable fashion, what was supposed to be a purely joyful trip, I was concurrently mourning and grieving loved ones while in awe and relishing this magnificent place. Nature has a way of reminding me of being so very much alive!

All of this to say, the dream was finally achieved and Puchegüín was purchased by the people a few days ago! 🥹 A massive win and example of how humans can come together to protect our planet, biodiversity, and sustainable ways of living. Thank you, Chile, and all of the generous folx who have given us much needed inspiration with this movement! Hasta la próxima!

Flow state is a mental state where a person is completely immersed and fully engaged in an activity, experiencing a sense of effortless focus, deep enjoyment, and optimal performance. In this state, you’re so absorbed in the task at hand that everything else—like time, self-consciousness, and distractions—seems to disappear.

I had the pleasure of getting in front of the camera on my send of a Paradise Forks classic, Mutiny on the Bounty. Stripped down with just the sounds of the breath and stoke. What a cool experience!

I am thankful for this sport, for the challenge, for the community and friends, and the flow state that puts my mind at ease.

Shout out to the camera man who is not only talented at filming and climbing, but also empowering of women which is much needed right now! @_nelsonklein

A sense of community is something everyone needs.

With an ever increasing amount of people finding company online, that wasn’t for me.

Although I’m active on social media, I try to spend as little time on it as I can.

As someone who doesn’t a lot of work on their own

And who has yet to find a large group of likeminded people in the online space

I had been yearning for a group of people I could talk creating and business with.

I have great people I work with, but it’s not the tribe I was looking for.

Then came this group of creators in Flagstaff.

The meetings have inspired and excited me.

It’s exactly what I was needing.

Although recently the meetings have been more dispersed

That doesn’t mean the people who are apart of this group don’t mean less to me.

It has been so amazing to hear everyone’s stories, workflows, editing techniques, job opportunities, etc.

The people in this community have given me a lot to look forward to,

So thank you to everyone who’s built it up.
