The Film Rolls.

Well, here’s what came out of that old film camera.

A few questionable exposures, some colourful characters, and a whole lot of life happening before all hell breaks loose.

There’s something about rodeo that just feels right on film. Rough around the edges, unpredictable, and not particularly concerned with looking pretty.

Neither am I.

I’m always more interested in capturing how it felt to be there than getting every frame perfect. The nerves, the laughs, the friendships, and the occasional questionable life decision.

Personally, I’ll stick to pointing cameras at angry bulls, rather than climbing on them. But I’ve got a hell of a lot of respect for the people who do.

I’m back behind the chutes this weekend for the RAM Rodeo Championships in Ancaster. @ramrodeotour

The Bonds That Outlast the Ride.

There’s a lot of competition in rodeo. But there’s also a hell of a lot of camaraderie.

One of the things that struck me most at Binbrook was how much these riders look out for each other.

Young or old, experienced or just getting started, there’s a shared understanding of what it takes to climb into the chutes.

Someone’s always lending a hand. Helping tape a wrist, offering advice, fishing ropes under a bull, cracking a joke to cut the tension, or standing by when it’s your turn.

Because when the gate opens, you’re on your own.

But everything leading up to that moment? You’re surrounded by people who understand exactly what you’re getting yourself into.

There’s something special about a community built around shared risks, hard-earned respect, and a genuine desire to see the next person succeed.

The competition might bring them together. But it’s the community who keep them coming back.

And that’s something worth documenting.

Because years from now, the scores and standings will tell us who won. But photographs like these will remind us who was there, what it felt like, and the people who made it matter.
