TMAF Artist member News: CATHERINE CAMARGO · Miami

On June 5, TMAFamily member Catherine Camargo finished her artist residency at YoungArts, opening her studio one last time to the public and participating in a panel conversation moderated by Lauryn Lawrence, alongside other YoungArts alumni winners: Fharid LaTorre (2018 Visual Arts), Sue Helen Montoya (2009 Photography), and Destiny Moore (2020 Visual Arts).

A 2017 YoungArts winner in Visual Arts, Catherine admitted during the panel: “Going back to my artistic practice makes me realize how my practice as an artist, curator and gallerist are intertwined. It’s all the same work”

YoungArts, the Miami-founded organisation that identifies and supports talented young
artists in the United States, continues to anchor a vital pipeline for emerging Caribbean and diasporic
voices. To be in this room — across generations and mediums — is to see the Caribbean diaspora’s
contribution to American contemporary art made visible.

We are proud to celebrate Catherine’s voice and her continuing presence in conversations that matter.

Collective Oasis started as a way to gather @youngarts alum in Miami. Over the past few months @naomi_jellyfishrrr and I have seen key ways to grow our arts ecosystem through interdisciplinary gatherings of creative minds, actively cultivating community. Thank you to @larryosseimensah and @jeneedaria joining and sharing with our community for this special moment.
