Looking back on when I started taking senior portraits, there’s a lot of little things I wish I would have known that could’ve made the process so much easier and fun of course! I’m sure there’s much more to learn, but here’s a few things

1. I used to get nervous when someone would tell me, “I’m really awkward in front of the camera “. Now, I love hearing that because those are often the people who end up completely owning the shoot once they warm up a little bit.

2. Outfit changes used to be a hassle. I wish I would’ve known how much easier shoots would be with a pop-up changing tent. It saves so much time. No need to hunt for a public restroom or waste time running to the car

3. I wish I would have encouraged seniors to bring all the props they possibly could anything that makes them happy or they feel passionate about. It could even be a beautiful bouquet of flowers just add a pop-up color!!

4. Some of my favorite images now are the candid ones, slightly messy, a little blurry as you’re running towards the camera with the wind blowing your hair, or laughing often to the distance at something silly. There often the most magical!

5. I wish I would’ve created a questionnaire from day one that asks some thoughtful questions to get to know my seniors personally ahead of time so I can help them create the perfect session that fits their style.
