Watch Brother Wallace cover Al Green (and a bit of Stevie Wonder) for Best Fit's secret sessions at End of the Road

The Georgia-raised Christopher Wallace – AKA Brother Wallace (@brotherwallaceofficial) – was the perfect high point to close out Best Fit’s secret sessions at this year’s @endoftheroad Festival.

Wallace – who got his start playing piano aged 11 in church - whipped out a cover of Al Green’s "Let’s Stay Together", surely one of the greatest songs ever written. And if that wasn't enough, he followed it up with a final anniversary greeting to the festival on its 20th birthday bringing the crowd together for a bit of Stevie Wonder's "Happy Birthday".

Wallace's debut album Electric Love dropped back in the early summer this year and his End of the Road appearances marked the end of a successful run of dates across the UK and Europe. His cover was part of a secret session for Best Fit at this year's End of the Road, which also saw pop-up sets from Prewn, Jeffrey Lewis, Madra Salach, Jasper Llewellyn, Will Doyle, Jordan Patterson, Morgan Nagler, Rostam Batmanglij, TTSSFU, Way Dynamic, Modern Woman, Cleo Reed, Hayden Thorpe and thredd.

Best Fit's secret sessions have become a key part of End of the Road each year, bringing together artists from across the line-up in a series of short sets, exclusive covers, collaborations, and live interviews and Q&As. Past guests have included Lucy Dacus, St Vincent, Wilco's Jeff Tweedy, Moses Sumney, Laura Marling, Patti Smith, and Frightened Rabbit - who played a now iconic version of "The Modern Leper".

End of the Road Festival runs from 2-5 September 2027 with tickets on sale now.

Watch Jeffrey Lewis (@jeffreylewisband) cover Boyz II Men "End of the Road" for Best Fit's secret sessions at @endoftheroad festival.

We didn't have Jeffrey Lewis covering Boyz II Men on our End of the Road Festival bingo card but that's exactly what happened when the legendary singer-songwriter and comic artist delivered a very special 20th birthday gift to the festival.

Initially planning to take on the late Michael Hurley's song of the same name, Lewis had to change lanes once he discovered Yo La Tengo got there first for their own Best Fit secret session, two years back. And so the R&B classic - originally written for the soundtrack to Boomerang and released in 1992 was given a very Jeffrey Lewis spin to close out his pop-up show – with an improvised coda paying tribute to his many appearances at the festival over the years.

(Jens Lekman also gave his take on the song during his 2017 set but don't tell Jeffrey Lewis!)

Among the many surprises at @endoftheroad festival's 20th birthday edition earlier this month was the first of three incredible performances in the space of 12 hours from @madrasalach_ which sealed the Irish band's status as one of the best live acts around right now. Ahead of their main set on the Garden stage , the six-piece pitched up at the piano stage for the first of two secret shows, playing a handful of songs for Best Fit, which included a stunning cover of fellow Dublin band @alazarussoul's 2019 track "Long Balconies", which you can watch in full below.
