I recently heard about the lighthouse era of motherhood and I haven’t stopped thinking about it.

When they’re little, you’re in the boat with them. You’re rowing, you’re steering, you’re holding on through every wave. And then slowly, somehow, some way, they’re in the boat by themselves. You’re still close. Still in view. But the water between you gets a little wider every year.

And then one day you become the lighthouse.

You’re not in the boat anymore. You’re standing on the shore, shining light into the places that feel dark so they can find their own way through. You’re not steering. You’re not rowing. You’re just there. Steady. Glowing. Always available if they need to find their way back.

I think I’m somewhere in the lighthouse years now. And I’m learning that standing still and staying lit is its own kind of love.

What a birthday weekend! Overflowing with love and moments I’ll carry with me all week long. It began with my sister in this journey, the friend who’s walked beside me through it all. Then my boys came home, filling my heart in only the way they can. And it all ended with stepping into a dream I’ve held so close, my book cover photo shoot.

Grateful for the love, the laughter, and the new chapters ahead. The celebrating continues…

Thank you for making me a mom. You’ve been my reason through every chapter. The greatest gift today was that you were both in the city, and I got to spend Mother’s Day brunch with you together. My heart is full. Love you both @owen_alexander_finn @_oscarfinn

I couldn’t have asked for a better night with my youngest. Seeing Living Color open for Extreme in Detroit! I saw extreme in 1993 I was 18 years old and now I’m seeing them again with my 19 year old! Loved every second of this night.
