PART 0/5: BEFORE THE EPIC

Before the SlackerVan story went completely sideways (this time), life was actually pretty great.

We had just spent a week in Estonia sharing #Slackro, meeting new friends, reconnecting with old ones, and exploring a country we had never expected our little life of yoga, acro, and slacklining to take us to. Happy to meet so many new friends at @handsfreeacrofestival

Then we landed in Salt Lake City, jumped back into the #SlackerVan, That was stored at @ianhoag76 and drove straight to Loveland for @overlandexpo

Overland Expo has become one of those places where so many parts of our life come together. We get to show off this strange 1988 Mitsubishi we have spent years modifying, teach classes, share some of the practices that shape our lives, and reconnect with friends and meet new ones

From there, the plan seemed easy.

Drive to our friend Devon’s house.

Spend about a week in his shop to
make a few upgrades. Add pre- and post-filter pressure sensors, a centrifugal bypass oil filter& Drain back, new oil-cooler plumbing, an @ohmmuenergy sodium starter battery, and converted to @evans.coolants waterless coolant.

Get the van ready for its next chapter, #PanAm

Then leave for five weeks of yoga and kiteboarding in Bonaire.

We had no idea that our “few upgrades” were about to turn into one of the most ridiculous 48 hours the SlackerVan has given us in a long time.

And considering this van’s history, that is saying something.

Next: Part 1/5 "We thought we were ahead."

@_owlclaw recently took this big ole’ diesel girl out on some adventures in Big Bear with a bunch of other Excursions on the @oversizedadventuress. That sounds like some action we may want in on next time they go!

Enjoying our #slowdrive to @overlandexpo mountain west in Loveland Colorado.

Will you be at the expo? Stop by the DIY showcase for a tour of the #SlackerVan. We are also teaching a bunch of classes. Everything from how to leverage your spending for free travel... to ...how anyone... even you can Slackline.

Overlanding isn't just about building a rig that's ready for anything. It's about building a body that's ready for anything too.

Ever wonder what the underside of the @slackervan looks like? 😅

This is a rare behind-the-scenes look at all the things usually hiding in plain sight: painted original skid plates, intercooler setup, insulated 18-gallon hot water tank, 5-gallon air tank, and our newest shiny upgrade from @_owlclaw.

The new stainless steel exhaust system has a flex pipe to reduce vibrations, new hangers so everything sits level without stressing the mounts or engine connection, and finally an O2 sensor so we can integrate air-fuel ratio data into our @justraceparts gauge cluster.

The result? Smoother, quieter, less shaky… and once again… the shiniest, prettiest thing on the van is in a place almost no one will ever see.

If you need custom work done on your #Delica, or pretty much any adventure vehicle, definitely contact Jacob at Owl Claw Performance in Flagstaff, Arizona.

And if you have an L300, make sure to check out their intercooler kits… and send a little nudge their way to start building custom stainless exhaust systems for more of our Delicas too. 😅

First ever for excursions event was a big success! I kept asking myself if I’d seen this many excursions in one place before, so have you ever seen more than 8 excursions in the same spot? When and where in the comments.
