If I were to place the days I spent working in Korea on one side of a scale, and the time I have spent back home on the other, then now, sitting firmly on the Taiwan side, I would have to look up just to see everything from Korea. “Today is the 114th day since I came home.” My diary still begins with this kind of narrative of time. It is as if that period of my life has already been carved into stone and needs to be given a name, so that when I look back along the timeline that keeps moving forward, I can easily recognize it. How fortunate I am that, as someone who has continued to exist as myself, I once had a fractured period of feeling like “not myself.” In the end, that rupture brought me infinitely closer to myself, closer to the state I had always hoped to become. From the bottom of my heart, I am grateful to every person I met in Korea, and to the version of myself who chose to set off on that adventure. I got called back in to help out on my day off.
