💿 VANGUARD VAULTS #064 💿 🎵 dBRIDGE & VEGAS - TRUE ROMANCE 📀 Metalheadz Platinum | METPLA 001 | 2004 🖤 THE B-SIDE THAT BECAME IMMORTAL!! By 2003, Darren White was at a crossroads. After Bad Company, dBridge admitted he felt lost, unsure where he fitted or even whether he was still relevant. Listening to Calibre, spending time around Fabio’s Swerve world and working with his brother Steve Spacek pulled him towards something deeper and more soulful. Then came True Romance. dBridge later revealed that a new relationship gave him the confidence to branch out. After a night at Fabio’s legendary night at The End, he heard two words that perfectly described the sound he was searching for: “AGGRESSIVELY BEAUTIFUL.” That became the blueprint. Warm Rhodes. Weightless melody. Surgical drums. A bassline carrying genuine menace underneath. Beauty and aggression occupying the same six minutes. 🤯 And here’s the incredible part… True Romance wasn’t even supposed to be THE tune. Bellini was the A-side, the track dBridge says Goldie went crazy for. True Romance was simply something they had for the flip. The B-side became one of the defining D&B records of the 2000s. It was also METPLA 001, the FIRST release on Metalheadz Platinum, with fellow Bad Company member Vegas credited for his contribution. 🧬 DEEP VAULT DETAIL: sample trainspotters eventually identified that gorgeous Rhodes passage as coming from Kyoto Jazz Massive’s 2002 Shine. Even more fitting? dBridge has specifically said he was listening heavily to Kyoto Jazz Massive during this exact period. 🇯🇪 Vanguard Archives: This era means everything to us, a time when Drum & Bass proved heavyweight music never had to sacrifice emotion. Two years gone 🖤 Forever in our hearts ❤️ 💿 VANGUARD VAULTS #028 💿 🎵 Randall & Andy C - Sound Control 📀 RAM Records | 1995 ✨ Some people inspire your music, others inspire your entire life 👑 I’ve chosen Sound Control for today’s From The Crates because, to me, it represents everything Randall stood for. Released on RAM Records in 1995, it perfectly captured the raw energy, precision and innovation that made him one of the most influential DJs our scene has ever known. But this post isn’t really about the record… It’s about the man. Like thousands of others, I was a young kid mesmerised by Randall’s tapes from packs like Dreamscape, World Dance & AWOL. Every mix taught me something new. Every minute of every day I’d be on my 1210s trying to recreate just a fraction of what I’d heard on these tapes. Without ever knowing it, Randall lit the spark that became a lifelong obsession with Jungle and Drum & Bass. 🇯🇪 Vanguard Archives: Because of that inspiration, we started promoting our own events in Jersey, and 2002, we proudly welcomed Randall to play the first ever Drum & Bass event at Madisons Nightclub. To DJ before the person who had inspired me from the age of 14 was surreal. Over the next two decades he became part of the Vanguard family, returning to Jersey time and time again, creating unforgettable memories and earning the love and respect of everyone who saw him play. 🖤 They called him “The DJ’s DJ” because every great DJ looked up to him. I simply called him my hero. Thank you, Randall… for the music, the inspiration and the memories. Without you, Vanguard may never have existed. Ed Rush & Optical’s futuristic production and relentless basslines helped shape the techstep movement, influencing countless producers and cementing Virus Recordings as one of the most respected labels in underground electronic music. 🇯🇪 Vanguard Archives: Ed Rush was one of the first international artists to perform for Vanguard DNB, tearing up Pure Nightclub back in 2010.
