Haboolm Ksinaalgat (Soul Catcher) Community Screening the last weekend.
Co-directed by Amanda Strong and Pamela Post, the 15-minute Canadian production is a powerful, fluid animation centered on reclaiming history and addressing colonial trauma.

Having the community come together to enjoy the film, meet the cast and crew was really a highlight. Many great speakers, sweet and powerful closing song wrapped the event perfectly.
Left gifted with fluff and down from the song along with a renewed sense of what lies ahead for Indigneous animation. 💛

Just one more side quest…it’s the end of summer…
The weather was perfect. The start time was, again, ungodly, yet 💯 worth it.
Nothing like an impromptu call to adventure…
“Hey, wanna go climb in Squamish?”
Read the start time again. Psych myself up for a 5am wake up and immediately overcommit.
Agree to meet the bearded guy with the big van in the parking lot. 🤣🚐🏔️👀 It’s okay, he’s a nice fella. Husband, father, active outdoor cat named Paul, patiently waiting with Nicole while she drinks her coffee.
Hop into what can best be described as the Mystery Machine meets off roading, with the driver’s seat on the wrong side. Solid start.
We head to Conroy’s Castle instead of the other spot. I’m good with this. I have zero context for either.
My plan was to watch and learn, wait until everyone was tired, then take a crack at it.
They were not having any of that. 🤣
Paul leads the climb, sets the route and anchor, then comes back down. “Your turn.” Me?! Oh no, I can wait. “Nah, your turn,” says Nicole.
So I gear up, proud of my new safety helmet, while realizing I now own another helmet for another activity.
This escalated fast.
Outdoor climbing is different and exciting. No colored holds, no temperature control, no clear route. Just your feet, hands and brain problem solving your way up.
It’s kinda brilliant.
There are slips, smacks against rock and moments of, “Oh dang, I’m stuck. Now what…” Wait. No I’m not. I can do this.
Then someone below calls out a suggestion. Boom. AHA moment. Keep going until you reach the top.
The palms stop sweating, you catch your breath and remember to look around. See how far you’ve come.
There’s that inner voice saying you can quit. It’s okay. Then something shifts.
You get back up from the slip. Elbows and knees burning from fresh bruises, hands and toes shaky with fatigue.
You’ve done hard things before, and you can do this too.
Having strong, supportive Indigenous women like Nicole & Josie in your corner, the Pygmalion effect takes hold. These are good things. Grateful for folks willing to share their time and energy to welcome others into new spaces. 🙇🏽‍♀️ Soon more mountain 🐐🏔️ goals #indigenous #climbing #pygmalioneffect

The heat was new, the distance was new but the me was still me. Running is something I didn’t think I’d enjoy. As a kid it was fun. As a preteen it was embarrassing and as an adult it seemed outta reach or too late.

The part I enjoy is the about it isn’t the PR, PB times splits better or worse. Don’t get me wrong those are great puzzles to solve in their own way. Sports and the competitive nature of them didn’t make sense to me. I’d think. Dang they seem to need it more than me.. here take it. ☺️

The part I enjoy is that it puts me in my body, makes me present and pushes my perception of difficult.

Leaves me with gratitude. For my ability to move, to my family n’ friends support and the opportunity to grow. To be in community when I am away from our Sylix territories.

Limləmt / Thank you to @indigenouswomenoutdoors and @vancouverbmo for the opportunity to run on the land and to be with community. #indigenouswomenoutdoors #health #sylix #secwépemc #indigenousjoy

The day after…the opening of ‘We Who Have Known Tides’ curated by @camilleusher is up and running at @vanartgallery until April 12th of 26.

My work in the show ‘Water Wings for the Big Waves’ and ‘Recording Pictographs Under Water’ joins a truly magical group of artists (many of them my heroes and some friends who are heroes). Thanks to everyone who came out and to those who will check it out in the future. 🌊 🌊 🌊 👋🏼

CTRL + ALT + Create: Digital Carver Modeling Workshop completed today!

So dang cool to be in a class setting with so many Indigenous students. Truly a dream for this Rez Kid. You can see my happy face seeing them there and having the support of @IM4Labs is wonderful.

I want to see more of this. More Indigenous creatives learning more about tech and how it as a tool can help carve new paths forward.

Limləmt / Thank you, to the students that showed up ready to learn, asked great questions and are pursuing their goals. Also really happy to receive the kind gift of a lovely big mug and thoughtful card. 🫶🏽

It's been a minute since I was able to be part of an inspiring event called Shifting Forms Symposium of Indigenous Moving Image Art, held here in Vancouver, BC on the unceded lands of the XʷMƏΘKʷƏY̓ƏM (Musqueam), SḴWX̱WÚ7MESH (Squamish), AND SƏLILWƏTAꞭ (Tsleil-Waututh) peoples.
I am still in awe of all the insightful conversations, engaging panels, fun workshops and amazing creatives I got to meet.
It was amazing to see so much talent and support in one space. Moments like that are so important to have, we can recharge our energy and be inspired by so others in community. To bring unity and foster connections with fellow creatives and allies alike. More of good medicine like this and others like it. <3
An incredible shout out to all the hard work of the volunteers, participants, supporters and importantly Amanda Strong of Spotted Fawn Productions for creating this amazing event that brought so much Indigenous Talent together.

Limləmt / Thank you ✨💛

Very cool event I had the privilege of mentoring today at the #GirlsandSTEAM with @scienceworldca in the Mentor Cafe. A full day event we were able to connect aspiring girls about careers in STEAM and share our experiences. 🤔I believe it broke down to 3 sessions with 4 rounds of 7-10 students that got to sit round table. To discuss the wide variety of jobs and opportunities in the STEAM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Design, and Math). I was at the table for animation with fellow mentor Aura Romay 🤓 🙌🏽 It was a great time meeting the other mentors too and learning about their cool careers. Congratulations to the team and volunteers @scienceworldca for putting on such an epic event! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 #steam #careers #bipoc #womeninsteam #indigenous #sylix #Secwépemc #animation #visdevmodeler #cg #modeler #indigenousintech #indigenousinanimation

I had an amazing time at the 10th Anniversary of the ZBrush Summit 2023 last weekend. The presentations during the event were very inspiring and unforgettable. Thank you to all the presenters for all the great ZBrush tips and your time. I really appreciate it. Thank you to the hosts for making the event entertaining and for building up the excitement and positive energy. Thank you to everyone behind the scenes and the volunteers for making it all happen. I am looking forward to attending next year.

It was a great honor to be there in person for the announcement of ZBrush coming to the iPad and having the father of ZBrush Ofer Alon in attendance. There was very loud applause and 3 standing ovations.

I was very lucky to have a rare chance encounter and take a picture of the legend Ofer Alon and my teacher Shane @shaneolsonart @3dcharacterworkshop

It was awesome meeting and chatting with former Funko co-worker Ian @ir_sculpts He has been a great addition to the ZBrush team and really made the Summit entertaining.

It was great meeting @tswittelsbach and thanking him in person for his help with one of my sculpts years ago during his ZBrush livestream sculpt reviews.

It was also great meeting @freakineken wife and her sister as well as the @3dconceptartist Extramile and workshop artists. It was cool hanging out on the hotel roof top with @_punchy_ @jd3d2 @daniellionarts Eddy and many more. All very nice people.
