The McKinney Family’s 9/11. ➡️ Sure, it’s our country’s 9/11, but it was ours 9 years before... On 9/11/92 the 6 McKinney children + their spouses, 17 nieces/nephews and my mom lost our dad, father-in-law, grandfather, and husband… Ironically, in a mid-air plane crash. Not THE 9/11, but our 9/11. Today I’m thinking of the 23 lives that were brought into this world who have made it a better place because of my dad. To honor my dad, since the 1st anniversary of his death, every 9/11 I wear a Dior jacket he bought me when I first got into real estate. “Mickey (he called me), if you’re going to get into business you need to look more like a businessman than a rock singer,” he said the day he bought this very jacket when I was 22 years-old. So today, 34 years after he died, I once again proudly wear it and thank God for my dad and all the love and advice he gave me. When I look in the mirror I see his intense, yet reserved spirit 💔.

My 50th Indy 500 + Nilsa’s 30th was a memorable day before Memorial Day…➡️ It started with a police escort to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway because I had missed my connecting flight the night before and would be late for the race - an odd twist on Mark 6:4 “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town, among his relatives and in his own home.” Thanks Pat from IPD! Front row penthouse seats that have been in our family for 70+ years that allow you to see turns 1, 2, and 4 on the 2.5-mile oval + 350,000 of your closest friends! Just before the green flag dropped a heart-pounding, proud-to-be-a-American pace lap escorted by 2 massive Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawks from the Army’s elite 160th Special Ops Regimen. The thrilling Indy 500 race itself, and its white-knuckle finish. Only 233 milliseconds separated 1st and 2nd place - the closest finish in the race’s 110-year history. It takes 300 milliseconds to blink. Congratulations Felix Rosenqvist! But the absolute highlight was my beautiful mother 💞. Just look at her! It’s like the Met Gala held on encore at the Indy 500 while simultaneously selections were being made for People Magazine’s most beautiful woman - and Katie McKinney stole both shows! It was such a joy for Nilsa and I to see all of this through the eyes of the most beautiful soul you’ll ever meet 💞💞.
