The Old Ben Soto Park was demolished in 2011 to be remodeled using leftover jungle gym parts from the neighboring playground, and leftover Lower East Side Coleman Playground obstacles during their properly funded re-models.
No money was invested in the re-design of the park, with any efforts to try & restore it to it’s former glory being taken as a joke!! It truly shows how little they care about the communities interests.
We CAN NOT be ignored any longer.
Staten Island is very overlooked in many aspects and it pains me to see something so vital to the community being neglected so heavily.
For a lot of us this is more than just a skatepark. When they tore it down it was like watching someone bulldoze my childhood home. I’ll never forget when my parents first threw me out and i spent my first night sleeping in the bowl with my skateboard as my pillow because it felt like the safest place in the world to me. Kids need places like that.
I know it’ll never be like it was, but with a brand new skatepark we can make new memories united as a community like we once were in these videos ❤️
