TONIGHT: THE HOTEL PRESENTS…BRUCE GILBERT + ROCHEMAN + FINN KENNEDY For its third evening at OTO this year, The Hotel brings together three artists closely tied to the project’s formation, spanning new electronics, performance and song. Bruce Gilbert, founding member of Wire and the force behind projects including Dome, AC Marias and Duet Emmo, opens with a rare solo live set. His work across Mute, Touch and Editions Mego has traced a singular path through experimental electronics for decades, and tonight offers an early glimpse of a new LP due from The Hotel in November. Test pressings of the still-unannounced record will also be available at the merch table. Performance artist and musician Finn Kennedy follows with the premiere of Streams, a new work commissioned by The Hotel. Kennedy’s performances construct live frames where gossip, unstable narratives, limited realities and a sense of cultural estrangement accumulate into something deliberately slippery and unresolved. Closing the night, Rocheman performs with his full quartet following the release of his second LP Basin on The Hotel earlier this year. A London songwriter and producer whose recent work also includes the Angel Storm and Virtua Saint EPs, Rocheman is joined live by Fred Lomas of Kinn on lead guitar, Tom Powell on drums and Tom Wright on keyboards. Test pressings of a yet-to-be-announced Bruce Gilbert LP will be available for sale at the merch table, alongside all other titles from The Hotel. Supported by Arts Council England 🎟 £17 adv / £13 members → Tickets via Stories and cafeoto.co.uk → Doors 7:30pm

about the new room...... John Wesley (1703-1791) was an English cleric, theologian, and evangelist who was a principal leader of the CoE movement known as Methodism. The New Room opened in June 1739, housed the earliest Methodist societies and is the oldest purpose-built Methodist preaching house / chapel. The chapel was built with a double-decker pulpit and is lighted by an octagonal lantern window to reduce the amount paid in window tax. The pews and benches were also made from old ship timber. Wesley insisted that meetings at the New Room should only be held outside of Anglican church hours as he wanted Methodism to complement rather than compete with Anglican worship. He travelled widely, generally on horseback, preaching two or three times each day. He practised a vegetarian diet and in later life abstained from wine for health reasons. He enjoyed music and attended concerts, and especially admired Charles Avison, attending a performance in Bristol Cathedral in 1758. -------- program 12 takes place in John Wesley's New Room on Tuesday 20th October 2026 featuring performances by Mochyn Daer, Ye Gods, Rocheman, Shlinga and Revelry this event will be powered by the mighty Awassa Soundsystem - a unique omni-directional soundsystem broadcasting in full stereo tickets available on headfirst now @mochyndaer @maiovvi_yegods @_rocheman @shlinga_makes_sounds @awassa.sound 🕰️

program 12 arrives as the cold sets in & fall squeezes the sunlight hours out of the day - held between the spellbinding walls of John Wesley's New Room - five performers invite us to explore with them their relationship with spirituality, contemplation & sound introducing... Mochyn Daer - music woven from the fertile ancestry of time & excavated deep from inside the earth - seamlessly blending modern sound healing craft with song from Welsh folkloric tradition into a magnetically powerful sonic force that commands attention & floods over the soul Ye Gods - having assembelled a recent triptych of albums which defied expectation & uprooted his sound into altogether more moonlit locale - Ye Gods returns to deliver us his singular blend of liturgical dark-ambience coaxed out of the power of the human voice, prismatic effects & his trusty 808 Rocheman - some days it's easy to think that all the great songs have been sung but Rocheman swiftly debunk such falsehoods by proving that sophisticated songwriting craftmanship can still flourish in the correct set of hands - elegant fingerpicked guitarlines interlock with lush orchestral arrangements & rich baritone vocals, creating an inimitable sound capable of stirring emotion deep from within even the most dispassionate of souls Shlinga - is a sound-artist & professional terpsichorean who imbues her performances with a sense of playfulness & cheer, interacting with environments in a way that is expolratory, inviting and thoughtfully proxemic. Shlinga's improvisational craft explores themes of touch, dance, sensitivity + sound & captures the true spirit of free-expression - presenting her installation "The Web" weaved especially for this evening in a way truly befitting of the magnitude of the space Revelry - infant devotional trance music project crafted from half a lifetime of love, loss, (hair-loss) & learning live with joy whilst navigating a deeply uncertain world - broadcast through the @awassa.sound system - omni-directional sound in full stereo - "Everything is transfixed, only the light moves." - Leonora Carrington - @mochyndaer @maiovvi_yegods @_rocheman @shlinga_makes_sounds @newroombristol 🔱

Listening In 001: Harry Styles’Meltdown Festival 🎧 For eleven days every summer, the Southbank Center hands over its key to a curator, who fills every corner of the venue with artists, sounds, and conversations that have shaped them. It never feels like a traditional festival. Instead, it feels more like you’re wandering through someone’s library, finding artists you’d never heard of, rediscovering sounds, and discovering just how many different ways live music can make you (well, me) feel. Read my thoughts on blackinbritain.substack.com Thank you again @southbankcentre @harrystyles
