Afrikaburn was a VIBE and it’s made me fall deeper in love with South Africa!

Story time: Back in 2014/15 I went to Burning Man in the US a couple times and was inspired by the 10 principles and the communities that spring up around the Burn that support the arts and music, encourage counterculture, and look down on hypercommercialization. The experience profoundly shaped the development of my values and my DJ career over the next decade and led to the genesis of @nonlinear_experience among other projects.

However as I looked more closely at what I stand for I found myself less interested in the big Burn over time. While still loving the core concepts, it feels to me like the progress of time has resulted in more and more people treating it like something to consume. The reality is more complex of course, but I trust my intuition and have not been back.

Afrikaburn was everything Burning Man is and was, but with 10 years of commodification missing. Such a pure experience. Amazing people, some hardships, lots of working together, lots of joy, generosity, and love. HUGE thanks to @witchhunt_musica and @sexico.city for making it soooo good.

I played 3 DJ sets and the vibe was amazing each time. Pure 🔥 closing out the @sexico.city Mad Hatters party, such a warm welcome and deep groove playing for @camp.whynot, and a beautiful daytime glow with the @8doc.art crew. Such a pleasure to share my musical curation with everyone. Thanks to all those who made it happen. ❤️ you all!
