Your 2026 HDXWP DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR…

RYAN GENTILE

The 4th overall pick in the Draft, Gentile expanded his game this season, even getting a few offensive reps in the pool. But defense is where the star truly shined. Ryan has the heavy argument as best goalie of the year. His physicality and clutch blocks in net played a huge role in Goobertown’s season sweep.

“Remember kids, keep your stick on the ice.”

Captain Landon Hardister opened the draft by selecting 2025 Defensive Player of the Year Cohen Calogero #1 overall, then followed it up by drafting Ryan Gentile (#4) and Jordan Buchanan (#5). With those back-to-back picks, Goobertown secured what many believe are the two best goalies in the league, a move that likely forced Flippin to respond quickly for shot protection.
Both Gentile and Buchanan have also played in the main pool during scrimmages, meaning the Wet Warriors could rotate them in and out of goal to keep each rested and fresh.
Goobertown continued its draft with Peter Garrison (#8), who finished last season strong with both an Offensive and Defensive Player of the Game in the final two games of 2025. They followed that with Jack Mullins, the 2025 Most Improved Player of the Year, a defensive presence known for his physical play. The team rounded things out with Lilly Lewis (#12), a high-IQ player entering her third season with the Wet Warriors.
While Flippin leans on offense, Goobertown will depend on its defense, depth, and goal protection. Their net defense may be the strongest in the league, but containing players like Vennerholm, Allen, and company will still be a challenge. The Wet Warriors bring a balanced roster with several key players that are more than capable of impacting both offensive and defensive ends of the pool- with the likes of Calogero, Garrison, and Hardister. If Goobertown can slow the pace and control the game defensively, the Wet Warriors could prove to be a difficult team to topple.
