All for What?

Why do we ski?

Somewhere along the way, it feels like every day in the mountains became tied to an objective. A summit. A line. A photo. A track on a map proving where we went and how far we pushed.

But I wonder if we’ve lost touch with something simpler.

I think about the days when the best part wasn’t standing on top. It was the conversation on the uptrack. The shared silence between friends. The feeling of moving through wild places under our own power.

Some of my favorite ski days never reached the summit. Weather turned us around. Legs gave out. Conditions changed. Yet somehow the turns were still incredible.

The mountain never asked for proof. It never cared whether we made it to the top.

So why do we?

Are we chasing adventure, or are we chasing evidence of adventure? Have we become so focused on documenting the experience that we’ve forgotten to live it?

Maybe skiing doesn’t need an objective. Maybe a handful of good turns, good company, and a reason to spend a day outside is enough.

Maybe it always was.

10 legendary days on a sailboat. Ate questionable amounts of food, pointed at a lot of things, skied some incredible lines, laughed way too much, and somehow made it back in one piece. 10/10 would do it again. Thanks again Spitsbergen!
