My life in Oaxaca, my moments for a lifetime.

Being my first trip abroad, many things came ahead, from acceptance into the program, to the process, down to the experience. Full of feelings: curiosity, anxiety, excitement, and humility. I felt it all, thankfully and gracefully. But I learned far more academically, socially, and personally, than I imagined.

Throughout it all, I reflected. Being around peers with shared experiences, hearing their upbringings and what shaped them, allowed me to reflect on my own. What shaped me, and how I maneuver. Their transparency opened the door for mine. I reflected on my relationships with my parents, siblings, friends, and love life. I reflected on my triggers, happiness, habits, and upbringing. How it explains who and how I am, what I’ve tolerated, and what I no longer want to.

Above all, I faced self-realizations. About what I want to change for myself. The people I want to be around, the work and environments I want to be immersed in, and those I don’t. I realized there’s a life I want to live, one fulfilling and full of life. I know I need to trust the process, give time its time, and trust myself.

Not only did I reflect and realize, I gained. Life lessons from Oaxaca and its people to enjoy the Didi ride, the walk to the bus stop, and sitting with your folks while food’s being made. But most importantly, be present and be with your people.

I gained life lessons, but also family. Meeting strangers turned into a forever family. My southern belles, my stallion sisters, my west coast sisters, my girls beyond this world. My family full of Howard siblings and Morehouse brothers who will forever be in my core memory, and who have a Morehouse brother in me. A month of indescribable memories and moments to last a lifetime. I’m grateful to have experienced life in Oaxaca with you.

I’m grateful for this experience, for not letting fear say no, but truly, for those who helped make it possible. Who gave me the chance to see what the world has to offer. This reminds me to be a good person, to your people, to others, and in love, support and community is yours.

With all love,
Your Morehouse Brother, Noè ♡
